About The Position

This position serves as an on-site point of contact for the installation, maintenance, and corrective actions associated with intricate, protective relaying schemes, communication systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) components, and other Operational Technology (OT) systems deployed in support of Dominion Energy’s Distribution, Transmission, and Power Generation facilities. Individuals in this position have depth of knowledge and field experience necessary to understand and interpret complex engineering design packages for the systems outlined above. These individuals are required to coordinate activities on multiple projects, simultaneously. During which, they provide technical oversight of System Protection technicians and trainees in addition to other on-site groups, ensuring all field as-built primary equipment and associated protection and control systems function in accordance with approved engineering designs. Installation and commissioning responsibilities include: Review, correct (as needed), and mark-up engineering project protection and control packages; Developing an electrical clearance boundary (tagout) and Human Performance work zone strategy; Providing on-site project coordination during construction phase, to: Coordinate manning of Technician and Electrician work force; Generally, 5 per project (1-technician, 4-electricians); Interface with other Business Units and 3rd Party POCs related to Protection and Control work; Development of decommission strategy for retired equipment; Development installation strategy (panels, wire pull schedules); Coordinating the installation and testing of various communication mediums (Fiber Optics, RS-232, Coax, etc.); Ensuring each protection and control asset can communicate to front end data communications equipment; Verification of firmware and software to ensure accordance with engineering approved specifications; Ensuring protective relay logic and set points are applied to appropriate assets; Performing acceptance testing of all voltage and current sensing devices; Performing on-site commissioning activities for new digital monitoring equipment; Performing acceptance testing on new yard equipment cabinets, interface enclosures, and control house panels; Performing functional testing activities to ensure protective relaying, assisted communications, controls, and associated auxiliaries operate in accordance with engineering design specifications; Verifying all station alarms and other telemetry controls are functional to operating and/or control center(s); Performing in-service verifications to ensure as-builts reflect engineering designs; Applying Cyber Security controls per Dominion Energy standards. Completion of all compliance paperwork and supporting documentation. Post installation, individuals in this position perform maintenance activities as defined by each business area’s maintenance program. Maintenance of protection systems include various activities developed to address regulatory requirements and system reliability by re-verifying systems and associated equipment functions in accordance with engineering designs. This position will provide technical support to the Data Comminication Team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years directly related experience
  • Successful completion of the Electric Transmission System Protection Technician Development Program
  • Solid understanding of Company commissioning and maintenance work practices and acceptance test criteria
  • Solid understanding of operation and maintenance of control circuits, protective relay applications and substation equipment
  • Solid understanding of COMTRADE and other fault simulation files
  • Strong Project Management/Coordinator Skills
  • Ability to plan and organize highly complex substation construction projects
  • Ability to test highly complex protective relays, associated communications systems, and SCADA infrastructure
  • Must be graduate of Electric Transmission System Protection Technician Development Program
  • Weight restriction of 290 pounds
  • Must live approximately 1 hour from designated work location
