About The Position

Pembina Pipeline Corporation is seeking two Senior System Development Engineers to join their Project Enablement team within the Engineering & Construction Group at their Calgary Office. These roles report to the Supervisor, System Development. The Senior Engineer, System Development position requires a blend of commercial acumen, expertise in hydrocarbon processing and hydraulics, and an understanding of market fundamentals to align with Pembina's strategy. This role combines highly technical expertise with a practical and innovative mindset, balancing customer requests with realistic functional scoping to support business growth and provide clear work packages for project execution teams. The System Development team is responsible for engineering all commodity movements across Pembina’s pipeline networks, developing functional scopes for commercial negotiations and opportunity vetting. The team integrates commercial opportunities within existing and new assets, identifying infrastructure to enhance Pembina’s service offering along the molecular value chain. This is a highly collaborative team that works with Commercial Services and Business Development, coordinating with Operations, Hydraulics, Logistics, and Project Execution Teams.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering and registered and in good standing with APEGA.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, including a strong track record in project definition and hydraulic modeling.
  • Over 10 years supporting pipeline and facility operations.
  • Robust technical understanding of liquid & gas pipeline hydraulics, pumps/compressors, and operation of gas & liquid pipelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to convey and present complex technical solutions, influence and collaborate at all levels.
  • Ability to present and distill complex, far-reaching opportunities for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong commercial acumen spanning from product volumes, contractual concepts (fees, tolls, nominations etc.) to capital costs, operating expenses and the resulting value generation for Pembina.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations - flexible, adaptable, and a quick learner that demonstrates courage and perseverance.
  • Highly organized and adaptable to shift course as business drivers shift.
  • High business acumen with an ability to identify prospective opportunities and challenges, summarize and articulate value through metrics and analytics (in both data rich and data poor scenarios).
  • Exceptional presentation skills for creation and delivery of material across varied audiences, tailoring technical information into concise and digestible content.
  • Strong triage, prioritization and decision-making skills based on value, risk and operational needs, with a willingness to take measured risks for the benefit and success of the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Create and analyze hydraulic models for preliminary scoping and option vetting of commercial opportunities.
  • Identify new opportunities and generate preliminary work packages for schedule and cost estimation.
  • Support the generation of pipeline service agreements and contracts.
  • Act as a safety role model within commercial and technical discussions, ensuring safety remains foundational to scope, schedule, and business decisions.
  • Establish and communicate system and pipeline capacities, and align across working groups to define and establish pipeline metrics.
  • Provide ongoing Business Development and Commercial support for preliminary project vetting, leveraging expertise for initial option analysis.
  • Occasional travel to field locations for project scoping and integration.
  • Develop and build functional documents and system reports to summarize technical data and modeling; distill complex ideas and challenges into consumable, business-relevant deliverables.
  • Actively support and generate deliverables for complex and multi-disciplinary projects to support business growth.
  • Present summarized ideas and review technical information across a wide array of audiences.
  • Amalgamate and model contractual obligations, operational requirements, volumetric throughput, capacity, and system changes.
  • Think broadly across opportunities and challenges to arrive at new alternatives that create value in alignment with Pembina’s values.
  • Visibly demonstrate commitment and personal accountability to Pembina’s “Zero by Choice” safety culture and foster this across the team.
