About The Position

As a Senior Switchgear Engineer, you'll lead the design, analysis, and delivery of complex medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) switchgear solutions for high-profile industrial projects. You'll mentor junior engineers, ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI standards, and contribute to Powell's reputation for reliable, custom-engineered power systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering (or related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in switchgear design, preferably with MV/LV metal-clad/metal-enclosed systems.
  • Strong knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, IEC standards, and NEC requirements.
  • Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills for customer and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for site visits or customer meetings (domestic/international).

Nice To Haves

  • PE license preferred; EIT certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead detailed design and engineering of custom ANSI metal-clad switchgear, arc-resistant gear, and integrated power distribution systems.
  • Perform power system studies, protective relaying coordination, arc flash analysis, and short-circuit calculations using tools like ETAP or SKM.
  • Develop technical specifications, schematics, and bill of materials for customer projects.
  • Collaborate with project management, manufacturing, and field service teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership on bids, customer presentations, and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on best practices in switchgear design and industry standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in design processes and product innovation.
