The Senior Substation Engineer is responsible for leading all aspects of substation across the full portfolio of EDFps renewable projects in North America, ensuring that substation designs meet company requirements, utility standards, and applicable codes. Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience in substation design.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Strong understanding of substation and transmission line equipment and design principles.
  • Good understanding of design process – from preliminary design to “as-built” package.
  • Extensive and diversified knowledge of relevant codes, standards and engineering principles and practices required to produce safe, efficient, reliable, easy to operate and maintain, and cost-effective designs.
  • Experience with electrical engineering design software such as ETAP, ASPEN and PSCAD.
  • Ability to independently resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Ability to lead cross functional tasks and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel for 3-5 days at a time to coordinate with technical teams, perform site visits, attend conferences, or meet with partners as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for substation and high-voltage engineering, including physical design, protection and control design, major equipment specifications and electrical design studies such as power flow, short-circuit and protection coordination.
  • Provide technical leadership and resolution for all substation-related design issues during project implementation.
  • Support transmission line design, interconnection applications, and related engineering activities as required.
  • Develop design criteria and technical specifications; prepare / review internal engineering deliverables, such as single-line diagrams and electrical studies.
  • Ensure EDFps technical specifications remain aligned with evolving industry best practices.
  • Coordinate external electrical engineering resources required to support the projects workload and supplement internal technical activities.
  • Support technical review of procurement packages, vendor submittals, and evaluations for major HV equipment such as power transformers, HV breakers.
  • Coordinate project design with engineers within and outside EDFps engineering group.
  • Support other departments, including construction and O&M, on substation design matters such as lessons learned and specification changes.
  • Provide project engineering management support on select projects as needed.
  • Actively participate in external technical seminars.
  • Other duties as assigned.
