About The Position

As a senior student success adviser and coordinator for first year experience, you will manage a caseload of students and help assistant directors provide training and guidance to new hires. You will lead tasks or projects as assigned by leadership, provide strategic communication and best practices for various departments, and act as a representative and ambassador for our department within and around SCAD. Additionally, you receiving cross-training on all majors, collaborate with leadership on initiatives, and oversee new student advisement programs. You will also serve as the primary liaison with other SCAD departments to share information with fellow advisers. In this role, you will help create a positive environment for students as they prepare for their professional careers and follow a regular communication plan to proactively reach a caseload of 400-500 students. Among other duties, you will monitor student enrollment and coursework progress; provide counseling and answer questions about financial aid, student accounts, or major and minor selection; and conduct ongoing outreach to students identified through an early alert system. Responsibilities include the coordination of services with various offices, such as admission, bursar, student involvement, career and alumni success, counseling, and academic services, to promote communication and develop programs that enhance student retention. Additionally, you will develop student training for degree audit, MySCAD, and web registration software. In this position, you will explain academic and on-ground policies to students and lead First Year Experience (FYE) courses as assigned. You will meet with new students and parents during the SCADbound Summer Experience and assist students with all aspects of registration. Responsibilities include regular communication with department chairs and faculty about curriculum, course needs, academic policy, and academic advising procedures and coordination with other offices. You will review curricula, proof catalogs, and document student contact in Salesforce. As a senior student success adviser and coordinator, you will work with the scheduling department to plan FYE sections for all SCAD locations. Likewise, you will collaborate with directors of student success to assign instructors. Among other duties, you will ensure curriculum and lesson plans are appropriate, that slide decks are updated to match current goals, and that FYE content is uploaded into Blackboard. You will also guarantee that instructors are properly trained on all aspects of their roles, that weekly announcements are made, and that weekly review sessions are prepared. If non-SCAD presenters are scheduled, you will confirm their participation and submit any requested AV needs. Additionally, you will verify attendance is consistently taken, provide updated information as needed, and gather student feedback through an end-of-quarter survey. You will also ensure student wellbeing can be assessed during the quarter and oversee completion efforts for FYE repeaters. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills. They can meet deadlines, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and work well independently and as part of a team. The candidate possesses an in-depth understanding of related academic programs and a working knowledge of all SCAD undergraduate programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Must be a current student success adviser with at least three years of exemplary performance
  • Experience in financial aid advising or higher education counseling
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills

  • In-depth understanding of related academic programs
