About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer in Fairfax, VA, to lead large and highly complex structural projects with minimal support from senior staff. In this role, you will provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client guidance while leading project management efforts for structural systems in buildings and other structures, with a focus on Data Center and Industrial projects locally and nationwide. You’ll also work within project budgets, mentor team members, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
10 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
Demonstrated leadership traits in the Project Management career path
Adept in the technical aspects of one’s discipline
Mastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures
Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate effective team building skills
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

Coordinate, oversee, and manage structural projects ranging in size and complexity
Serve as the primary point of contact for project teams and clients
Collaborate with business development staff, Project Executives, Client Executives, and Market Directors/Leaders during early project opportunity stages
Assist with design scopes of work, fee calculations, proposal development, and contract reviews
Create project schedules and establish milestone and deadline targets
Prepare monthly billings, submit financial information to Accounting, and update billing projections and estimated completion percentages
Ensure design work aligns with owner requirements, IMEG standards, and code requirements
Coordinate design staff scheduling through all phases of design and construction, and lead progress meetings with documentation
Respond to client and construction concerns, manage change orders, and obtain appropriate approvals
Train, mentor, and motivate staff while building, maintaining, and developing client relationships
