About The Position

Fluidstack is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer specializing in Modular Construction to lead structural engineering efforts for modular data center development. This owner/developer role involves managing custom modular systems across a multi-site portfolio, from design through installation. The position requires approximately 25% travel and offers a path to senior leadership. The engineer will manage designs, external consultants, modular manufacturers, and coordinate with other engineering disciplines. The role emphasizes ownership, quality, and end-to-end responsibility in a fast-paced environment focused on building infrastructure for artificial superintelligence.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis), Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; M.S. preferred.
  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience, including significant work on modular, prefabricated, or custom-engineered structural systems and data center or industrial applications.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Hands-on experience performing structural analysis and design, including static, dynamic, and seismic calculations, member sizing, connection design, and calculation package development.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, ETABS, RISA, RAM Structural Systems, and SolidWorks.
  • Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, and AWS D1.1 standards as applied to modular and prefabricated construction.
  • Experience working within a BIM environment and participating in BIM coordination workflows.
  • Familiarity with module transport requirements, lifting and rigging design, and site installation sequencing.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfort with engineering data management.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills; able to work effectively across engineering, fabrication, and project management teams.
  • Ambitious and career-driven, with a desire to grow into senior leadership as the business scales.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hyperscale data center, large-scale industrial, or mission-critical modular facility development.
  • Exposure to high-seismic, high-wind, or expansive soil site conditions and their implications for modular foundation design.
  • Experience with factory quality management systems and modular third-party certification programs.
  • Familiarity with tolerance stack-up analysis, connection detailing for field assembly, and dimensional control programs.
  • Experience developing or automating internal engineering workflows and design standards.
  • Owner/developer-side experience (vs. pure consultant, EPC, or fabricator).
  • Familiarity with raised floor systems, equipment pad design, and integrated MEP support structures common to modular data center environments.
  • Experience with steel detailing software (similar to Tekla).

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer structural steel frameworks and modular systems for data center applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Perform static, dynamic, and seismic structural calculations for modular frames, stacking configurations, lifting and rigging conditions, transport load cases, and foundation interface connections using ETABS, RISA, RAM Structural Systems, and SolidWorks.
  • Develop detailed 3D structural models using Revit and AutoCAD 3D; maintain comprehensive model accuracy across design iterations and fabrication releases.
  • Produce detailed connection designs for module-to-module interfaces, foundation anchorage, and field-assembled structural elements, with a focus on constructability, weld specifications, and tolerance accommodation.
  • Lead design for manufacturability reviews, translating engineering intent into factory-executable details with clear fabrication tolerances and assembly sequences.
  • Produce construction drawings, material lists, and cutting schedules to internal and client specifications; coordinate closely with fabrication and warehousing teams to ensure accurate and timely material delivery.
  • Develop and maintain modular structural basis of design, master specifications, and standard details for Fluidstack's campus portfolio.
  • Apply and enforce ACI, AISC, AWS D1.1, ASCE 7, IBC, and other industry-relevant design codes and standards across all project phases and fabrication scopes.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and internal teams; present structural calculation reports and technical documentation to clients and design verification partners.
  • Manage external structural consultants and modular fabricators from schematic through IFC and factory release; review and redline deliverables, enforce standards, and track design quality across engineering and manufacturing workflows.
  • Field internal and external technical inquiries regarding structural products and systems; develop and expand the team's technical knowledge base.
  • Develop and drive automation of internal engineering processes to improve speed, accuracy, and repeatability across future projects.
  • Manage concurrent projects and their deliverables, maintaining schedule alignment across design, permitting, fabrication, and installation workstreams.
  • Lead structural permitting strategy across jurisdictions for modular programs: building permits, factory inspection and certification, special inspections, and structural observation requirements.
  • Coordinate with state modular program offices, local building departments, third-party inspection agencies, and factory certification bodies.
  • Manage permit and factory approval schedules as part of the overall project critical path.
  • Monitor regulatory risk including seismic design categories, wind exposure, transport route restrictions, and jurisdictional modular code acceptance; develop mitigation strategies.
  • Review fabricator submittments, RFIs, and factory non-conformances for structural scope.
  • Conduct periodic factory audits and site visits to document structural fabrication quality, dimensional compliance, and installation accuracy.
  • Collaborate with production teams for design optimization, ensuring structural solutions are practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable at scale.
  • Manage design changes and change order scope across both factory and field structural work.
  • Coordinate structural closeout, as-builts, and acceptance with local authorities, special inspection agencies, and modular certification bodies.

Benefits
