Senior Structural Engineer - Designer

LEAP•Broomfield, CO
•Hybrid

About The Position

This role focuses on producing and iterating conceptual designs for structural components and assemblies, preparing drawing packages and technical reports, and solving technical challenges to prevent structural issues from impacting vehicle programs. The engineer will mentor junior team members, define design requirements, support structural testing, and collaborate with the fabrication team to ensure manufacturability and integration. Responsibilities also include developing and documenting test plans and data. Other duties may be assigned, constituting less than 12% of the role.

Requirements

  • Mechanical, mechatronic or Aerospace engineering degree (Required)
  • 6 years design experience (Required)
  • CAD software such as NX, CREO, or Solidworks (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, high-accountability environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented approach to work and documentation
  • Ability to learn new tools, systems, or domains as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in high-growth, startup, or technically complex environments
  • Proven track record of large-scale metallic aerospace structures (Aircraft Fuselage / Payload Fairings / Rocket Propellant Tanks)

Responsibilities

  • Produce & rapidly iterate conceptual designs in CAD for structural components and assembles, resulting in a converged vehicle structural architecture ready for preliminary design review (PDR) and downstream analysis, manufacturing, and test integration
  • Prepare drawing packages & technical reports, enabling accurate fabrication, inspection, and structural design reviews while supporting efficient transition from design to build and test
  • Identify and solve technical challenges with due speed, preventing structural issues from becoming mass, performance, or schedule risks to the vehicle program
  • Engage with more junior engineers across the team with mentorship, raising structural design quality, analysis rigor, and documentation consistency while accelerating the development of future vehicle structures leaders
  • Definition of design requirements and subcomponent specifications, ensuring structural performance, mass targets, and load paths are clearly defined and verifiable across design, analysis, fabrication, and test
  • Support the structural testing in the lab and integrated on vehicle, enabling validation of structural performance, load paths, and margins under representative operating conditions
  • Work hand in hand with fabrication team on tooling and integrations, ensuring structural designs are manufacturable, assemblies integrate as intended, and production and integration schedules are met with minimal rework
  • Develop test plans, monitor test activities, and document test data, ensuring test objectives are met, results are traceable, and data supports structural verification and informed design decisions
  • Other duties as assigned [to be less than 12% of your total role responsibilities]

Benefits

  • Equity plan participation
  • 401(k) plan that includes competitive company matching
  • Professional development stipend
