About The Position

Johnson Controls is seeking an accomplished, analytically minded Senior Strategic Sourcing Buyer to lead the sourcing and management of key global commodities supporting our rapidly expanding Thermal Chain Optimization operations. The successful candidate will develop and execute category strategies, deliver sustainable cost improvements, strengthen supplier performance, and build high-value global partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of progressive procurement experience, with an emphasis on strategic sourcing.
  • Demonstrated experience applying global sourcing methodologies.
  • Proven ability to manage and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing principles and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills for data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of SAP or a comparable ERP system is preferred.
  • Experience in HVAC, engineering, industrial equipment, or a related industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build deep expertise in assigned categories, including market trends, competitive dynamics, supplier capabilities, and emerging innovations.
  • Develop and execute commodity sourcing strategies that optimize the supply footprint and reduce total cost through approaches such as low-cost-country sourcing and value engineering.
  • Maintain regular alignment with the extended business unit procurement team and other stakeholders to ensure effective execution of category strategies.
  • Lead supplier contract and pricing negotiations to secure competitive terms while establishing sustainable, long-term partnerships.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve trade working capital, purchasing controls, and cost analysis.
  • Actively manage the supply base and lead initiatives that strengthen supplier capability, performance, and accountability.
  • Proactively identify and resolve supplier delivery, quality, and commercial issues.
  • Use data and analytics to optimize procurement processes and support informed make-or-buy decisions.
  • Collaborate with international teams to identify and leverage purchasing opportunities across all business unit regions.
  • Meet or exceed category objectives for cost savings, quality, material delivery, and supplier rationalization.
