About The Position

The Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation (BCPI) at Johns Hopkins University seeks a Senior Strategic Advisor to lead the development of strategic frameworks and action plans for major initiatives. The Center aims to advance public sector innovation by combining practice and research to transform government culture, deliver results for residents, and build trust in public service. It is housed within the JHU School of Government and Policy (SGP). This role will focus on strengthening civic engagement practice and resident-driven innovation in cities, designing strategies and tools to support city leaders, and contributing to the Center's global thought leadership. The ideal candidate will be forward-thinking, collaborative, results-oriented, and skilled at building partnerships and shaping knowledge products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business, Finance or a related field.
  • Seven years of experience in management, analysis, and/or planning operations in a large complex organization.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  • Experience managing donor-funded programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research and data into actionable strategy and programmatic recommendations.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects involving government leaders, community organizations, and philanthropic partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially the ability to distill complex information for varied audiences and across diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong communications skills to serve as a persuasive representative for programs with cities, partner organizations, and students at public forums and elsewhere.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to work independently in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Experience managing teams and coordinating with external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and refine frameworks and programming for public sector innovation and civic engagement in collaboration with Center leadership and partners.
  • Design and develop methods, playbooks, and implementation tools to strengthen the integration of civic engagement into public innovation practice in city halls.
  • Oversee the production and dissemination of knowledge products, such as case studies, to advance the body of knowledge in civic engagement and public innovation.
  • Contribute to the Center's standing as an international thought leader in public innovation and civic engagement.
  • Stay informed about relevant research and emerging practices to identify collaboration and engagement opportunities.
  • Translate emerging practices and insights into various knowledge products, including case studies, instructional materials, practice briefs, implementation guides, and conference presentations.
  • Manage external consultants and partners involved in curriculum development, instructional design, coaching, research, and related workstreams.
  • Coordinate with other JHU centers and external stakeholders to align agendas and foster strategic collaborations.
  • Represent the Center to external stakeholders, including governments, philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, and academic and public sector leaders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support BCPI, the school, and the university.
