About The Position

Google is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for Discover Ranking and Search. The role focuses on AI-driven personalization and recommendation systems, including advanced deep-learning models, exploration of large language models, and novel ranking approaches. The engineer’s work will influence content shown to hundreds of millions of users, with the goal of improving engagement and satisfaction. The role also contributes to Google Search’s efforts to solve complex engineering challenges and maintain a universally accessible, useful experience for people around the world. Google software engineers develop technologies used at massive scale across areas such as information retrieval, distributed computing, system design, data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile. Engineers work on projects critical to Google, with opportunities to take on new problems across the full stack as the business evolves. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development.
7 years of experience leading technical project strategy, ML design, and working with ML infrastructure, such as model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, and fine-tuning.
5 years of experience building and deploying recommendation system models, including retrieval, prediction, ranking, and embedding, in production, and experience building architecture in different modeling domains.
5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing and launching software products.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
