Senior-Staff Software Engineer, Tooling
About The Position
Verkada is hiring a Senior-Staff Software Engineer for its Tooling team, which builds and enhances systems used by developers, sales, and support teams. The role focuses on designing new tools and improving the quality of existing ones, with opportunities to make a significant impact across infrastructure and software development. This position is based onsite at Verkada’s headquarters in San Mateo, California. The team’s work includes moving common cloud actions away from developer machines, improving license handling and feature flags, breaking a monolithic support tool into smaller tools, building AI-powered tools, improving security and privacy tooling, and contributing to open-source systems used by Verkada.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field of study.
- Experience and enthusiasm for learning about new infrastructure products, features, and strategies.
- Comfort working at the frontier of infrastructure and software development.
- Experience with Python and/or Go.
- Experience with one of the major cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Terraform.
- Experience with Kubernetes.
- Experience with a service mesh such as Istio.
Responsibilities
- Move common actions into the cloud rather than running them from developer machines.
- Improve license handling.
- Separate the monolithic support tool into smaller, more manageable tools.
