About The Position

Google’s software engineers develop next-generation technologies used by billions of people. Engineers work on projects critical to Google and are expected to be versatile, demonstrate leadership, and tackle new problems across the full stack. The Ads Content Safety team is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical leader and operational anchor for critical Ad Safety challenges. The role calls for adaptable problem-solving across machine learning, infrastructure, and software architecture, including identifying ambiguous problems and driving solutions. Google Ads applies machine learning and generative AI models, including Gemini, to support its global advertising business. The team works to protect users from harm, improve ad quality, and optimize campaigns for advertisers’ return on investment. It collaborates with teams such as Google Research and DeepMind to address complex challenges and build advertising technology at scale.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development.
7 years of experience leading technical project strategy and ML design, and optimizing end-to-end machine learning, such as model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, and fine-tuning.
5 years of experience in one or more of the following: speech/audio, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or another specialized ML field.
5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing and launching software products.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects and manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
