About The Position

Google software engineers develop technologies that enable billions of users to connect, explore, and interact with information. This role works on projects critical to Google, with opportunities to take on new problems across the full stack. The AI Data organization democratizes high-quality AI/ML data assets and infrastructure, building scalable and automated systems to manage ML assets from development through launch with full traceability and auditability while maintaining development velocity. The role focuses on understanding and improving complex ML pipelines and distributed systems, adopting advanced AI/ML techniques to address ambiguous business problems, and moving solutions from prototypes into global production. It sets technical standards for code quality, testing, deployment, and system performance; mentors engineers; and represents the team in broader technical discussions. The engineer partners with researchers to operationalize models and with product stakeholders to align technical roadmaps with user needs. Google Cloud helps organizations digitally transform through enterprise-grade solutions and tools for developers. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The listed US compensation is $262,000–$364,000, plus a 25% bonus target, equity, and benefits.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development.
7 years of experience leading technical project strategy, ML design, and optimizing end-to-end machine learning, including model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, or fine-tuning.
5 years of experience in one or more of speech/audio, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or another ML specialization.
5 years of experience with design and architecture, and with testing or launching software products.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

Responsibilities

Understand the design and architecture of highly complex ML pipelines and distributed systems, making them more resource-efficient while improving the quality of the AI/ML data assets they produce.
Drive adoption of next-generation AI/ML techniques to solve ambiguous business problems, taking conceptual prototypes through to global production.
Set standards for code quality, testing, and deployment; perform architectural reviews and optimize system performance.
Mentor executive and mid-level engineers, foster technical growth, and represent the team in high-level technical discussions across the broader organization.
Partner with researchers to operationalize models and work with product stakeholders to align technical roadmaps with user needs.
