Senior-Staff Software Engineer, Engineering Productivity
About The Position
We are actively looking for a talented software engineer to join the Infrastructure team with a focus on improving Engineering Productivity, specifically our Bazel and C++ infrastructure. Example projects include optimizing Bazel, extending and onboarding services to Bazel, improving C++ support through Bazel and our entire infrastructure. This will have a cross-company impact allowing engineers to quickly iterate locally on microservices and firmware. We are committed to a thriving in-office culture. This role requires you to be onsite at our HQ in San Mateo, CA (with flexibility to work from home).
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position
- Build Systems & Tooling:
- - Strong experience with C/C++ build systems (Make, CMake, Meson, or similar)
- - Deep understanding of C/C++ compilation, linking, and dependency management
- - Experience with build system migration and modernization
- Bazel Expertise:
- - Proven experience with Bazel in large-scale monorepo environments
- - Proficiency in authoring and maintaining custom Bazel rules
- - Experience designing and implementing Bazel toolchains for C/C++ builds
- - Knowledge of Bazel remote execution and caching strategies
Nice To Haves
- - Experience with bzlmod (Bazel's modern dependency management)
- - Familiarity with cross-platform C/C++ builds (Linux, macOS, Windows)
- - Background in build system performance optimization and incremental compilation
- - Background in firmware development and deployment
Responsibilities
- Make every engineer’s day-to-day productive and enjoyable!
- Define engineering tooling roadmap
- Own Kubernetes deployment and development tooling
- Build various software and hardware testing frameworks
- Provide technical support for engineers on other teams
- Help with growing the team
