Senior/Staff Product Manager

Effective AISan Francisco, CA
$190,000 - $270,000Hybrid

About The Position

Effective AI is building a software factory for complex industries: a system of record for how a business actually works. Most companies have databases, workflow tools, documents, dashboards, and expert operators, but the real model of the business - what things mean, when rules apply, what changes over time, what is company-specific versus industry-standard, and how expert judgment is applied - lives everywhere and nowhere. Effective turns that operating knowledge into governed systems that humans and agents can trust, extend, and act on. We are starting with insurance as our first deep domain, bootstrapping from regulations, product specs, filings, manuals, standards, market patterns, existing software behavior, and domain expertise to build reusable industry models. Contextbase is our living model of the domain and our customers, and with program synthesis techniques like RSL: messy insurance logic becomes typed, testable, executable, and inspectable. Customers inherit a governed industry model, specialize it for their products and workflows, and keep that specialization correct as the shared model improves. We’ve raised $10 million in seed funding from Lightspeed Ventures & Valor Equity Partners.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product management in enterprise software with heavy per-customer customization.
  • DevOps, security, infrastructure, or data analytics background ideal.
  • Hands-on with AI coding tools today. Actively using Cursor, Copilot, Claude, or similar to prototype and build.
  • Deep enterprise customer-facing experience. Have run demos for technical buyers, managed post-sale relationships, and made products work in messy customer environments.
  • Strong technical depth. Reason about auth, APIs, data pipelines, and system architecture. Brief engineers so they can build from it.
  • High agency, fast ramp. Do not wait for a playbook. Have absorbed a complex domain quickly before and customers trusted you within weeks.

Nice To Haves

  • Consumer product experience is not a fit.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of enterprise customer engagements, from the first demo to ongoing expansion.
  • Figure out what each customer needs, build a plan to deliver it, and work directly with engineers and SMEs to make it real.
  • Build prototypes, write engineer briefs, configure demos, and sit in customer meetings translating their business problems into product decisions.
  • Design and run demos that win deals. Understand the customer's workflows and evaluation criteria. Build tailored demos, not feature tours. Write briefs specific enough that engineers can start building tomorrow.
  • Embed with customers post-sale. Learn their processes, understand their vendor landscape, and translate what you learn into what the product should build next. Configure and customize the platform for each customer while the product itself levels up.
  • Own the hard product requirements. Auth, RBAC, approval workflows, data governance.
  • Design for expert users, not engineers. Users are domain experts who think in regulatory filings, rate structures, and competitive positioning. Take what engineers build and make it consumable for actuaries, underwriters, and product leaders.
  • Hold multiple enterprise engagements at once. Different timelines, different stakeholders, different technical complexity. Nothing drops.
