About The Position

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer for our Municipal department in Newark, NJ. This role involves supporting the planning, design, and execution of various municipal infrastructure projects. The engineer will perform calculations, prepare technical documents, develop plans using design software, and coordinate with project teams and clients. Responsibilities also include assisting with permit applications, reviewing submittals, providing construction support, attending meetings, preparing cost estimates, and ensuring compliance with codes and standards. The position emphasizes contributing to a collaborative environment and professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in municipal engineering or public infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic understanding of municipal design standards and permitting processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred (or ability to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, design, and execution of municipal infrastructure projects, including roadway improvements, drainage systems, water distribution, sanitary sewer systems, and capital improvement programs
  • Perform engineering calculations and assist in the preparation of technical specifications, reports, and construction documents
  • Develop plans, profiles, and details using design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D under the guidance of senior staff
  • Coordinate with project managers and team members to support timely and efficient project delivery
  • Assist with permit applications and coordination with municipal clients, regulatory agencies, and utility providers
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittments with oversight from senior engineers
  • Provide construction support services, including responding to field inquiries and participating in site visits as needed
  • Attend project meetings and assist with documentation of key decisions and action items
  • Support the preparation of cost estimates, schedules, and project budgets
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and agency requirements
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and actively participate in professional development opportunities
