Senior Staff Engineer, Program / Project Management - MTL

Celestica International LP•Austin, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

The Manufacturing Technical Lead (MTL) drives operational execution and technical readiness for next-generation hardware programs from initial concept through mass-production handoff. As the program team’s primary technical interface, the MTL bridges hardware design technical leads, software and firmware engineers, factory NPI managers, and global operations teams. The role owns manufacturing-risk mitigation, completion of hardware prototyping phases, and enforcement of documentation and change controls throughout the product development lifecycle. The MTL translates engineering product intent and schematic parameters into execution-ready factory directives, and partners with Front-End, Back-End, and Test Engineering leaders to scale manufacturing infrastructure, SMT lines, box-build automation, and test fixtures alongside prototyping. The role also aligns hardware design, software, firmware, diagnostics, and silicon readiness with test schedules. The position owns execution of early engineering and validation builds (Proto, EVT, DVT, and PVT), including build-specific Scopes of Work, hardware configuration baselines, quantities, material allocations, and test goals. It tracks and resolves manufacturing anomalies and controls engineering deviations. The MTL also applies risk reviews and quality monitoring, represents operations at Change Control Boards, and uses issue-tracking frameworks to remove blockers or escalate issues before critical paths are affected.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in hardware NPI engineering, manufacturing technical leadership, or systems program management.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic manufacturing operations, including SMT, box build, system assembly, and test methodologies.
  • Experience handling complex bill-of-material (BOM) structures and configuration lifecycles.
  • Proficiency with change-control systems such as PLM/CCB and bug or issue-tracking systems such as Jira.
  • Ability to author detailed technical documentation, including Scopes of Work (SOWs).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Industrial Engineering; educational requirements may vary by geography.

Responsibilities

  • Translate engineering product intent and schematic parameters into execution-ready directives for factory NPI managers and manufacturing sites.
  • Partner with Front-End, Back-End, and Test Engineering senior managers to scale manufacturing infrastructure, SMT lines, box-build automation, and test fixtures with prototyping phases.
  • Coordinate with hardware design technical leads and software engineering program managers to align code, firmware, diagnostics, and silicon readiness with test schedules.
  • Own execution of Proto, EVT, DVT, and PVT engineering and validation builds, ensuring timely completion and internal quality targets.
  • Author and enforce build-specific Scopes of Work defining hardware configuration baselines, build quantities, material allocations, and engineering test goals.
  • Track, document, and resolve manufacturing anomalies; control, document, and close engineering deviations.
  • Deploy NUDD reviews, golden pFMEAs, and Critical-to-Quality parameter monitoring to mitigate manufacturing and yield risks.
  • Represent operations at Change Control Boards and enforce change-management protocols for design changes and component substitutions.
  • Use issue-tracking frameworks such as Jira to monitor build blockers, drive technical workarounds, and escalate issues to management before critical paths are impacted.
