Senior Staff Engineer, Electrical Design

Renesas Electronics•Morrisville, NC

About The Position

Renesas is hiring a Senior Staff Engineer for its Consumer and Industrial Power (CIP) product line. The role is part of a design team developing next-generation IC products for analog and power applications, including complex chips with analog and digital control circuitry. The engineer will perform transistor-level design of analog and power circuits for new and derivative power management chips and support products from initial concept through production release. The position also involves supporting operational activities, managing processes and systems, and interfacing with multiple departments and external customers. The engineer will design CMOS/BCD analog and power circuits to meet performance, area, power, and schedule constraints. Relevant circuit areas include operational amplifiers, comparators, bandgaps, DACs, ADCs, current mirrors, switching regulators, and other power and mixed-signal blocks. The role requires understanding device parasitics, cross-sections, process considerations, and layout tradeoffs. Verilog/RTL experience is a plus, and analog and mixed-signal verification experience is desired.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
  • At least 12 years of product design experience required.
  • Design experience with several of the following: switching regulators, modulators, switching-regulator integrated PowerFETs and drivers, LDOs, precision amplifiers, oscillators, bandgap references, switched-capacitor circuits, and A/D-D/A data converters.
  • Design experience in CMOS/BICMOS required.
  • Knowledge of analog design, including operational amplifiers, comparators, bandgaps, DACs, ADCs, current mirrors, and high-power switching regulators.
  • Understanding of device parasitics and cross-sections, process considerations, and layout tradeoffs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Highly developed written and verbal cross-functional communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • MSEE or PhD.
  • Experience with small-geometry BCD processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of mixed-signal Cadence tools and parasitic extraction.
  • Verilog/RTL design experience.
  • Analog and mixed-signal verification experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform transistor-level design of analog and power circuits for new and derivative complex power management chips, potentially including multiple power-handling modules and synthesized digital circuitry.
  • Specify and design CMOS/BCD analog and power circuits that meet performance, area, power, and schedule constraints.
  • Collaborate with layout, verification, test, product, and application engineers to bring products from concept through production release.
  • Participate in discussions and draft documents about technical issues and other design aspects with internal teams and customers.
  • Initiate regular peer reviews with analog design engineers.
  • Guide circuit-block layout for high-speed performance and precision operations.
  • Run block-level and top-level mixed-mode simulations to meet datasheet parameters.
  • Support operational activities and manage processes and systems while interfacing with multiple departments and external customers.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits package alongside salary; details will be provided during the hiring process.
