Senior Staff Engineer, Electrical Design

Renesas Electronics•Morrisville, NC
•Onsite

About The Position

Join Renesas’ Consumer and Industrial Power (CIP) product line as part of its Design Team, working on next-generation IC products for analog and power applications. The role designs complex chips that include analog and digital control circuitry and supports operational activities, processes, and systems while interfacing with multiple departments and external customers. The engineer performs transistor-level design of analog and power circuits for new and derivative power-management chips, including CMOS/BCD circuits. The role works with cross-functional teams to bring products from concept through production, guides layout for high-speed and precision performance, and runs mixed-mode simulations to validate datasheet parameters. Relevant design areas include operational amplifiers, comparators, bandgaps, DACs, ADCs, current mirrors, high-power switching regulators, and other analog and power circuits.

Requirements

  • BSEE required.
  • At least 12 years of product design experience required.
  • Design experience with several of the following: switching regulator modulators, switching regulator integrated PowerFet and drivers, LDOs, precision amplifiers, oscillators, bandgap references, switched-capacitor circuits, and A/D-D/A data converters.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Design experience in CMOS/BICMOS required.
  • Highly developed written and verbal cross-functional communication skills.
  • Knowledge of analog design, including operational amplifiers, comparators, bandgaps, DACs, ADCs, current mirrors, and high-power switching regulators.
  • Good understanding of device parasitics and cross-sections.
  • Process knowledge and detailed understanding of layout tradeoffs.

Nice To Haves

  • MSEE or PhD.
  • Experience with small-geometry BCD processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Mixed-Signal Cadence tools and parasitic extraction.
  • Verilog/RTL design experience.
  • Analog and mixed-signal verification experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform transistor-level design of analog and power circuits for new and derivative complex power-management chips, which may include multiple power-handling modules and synthesized digital circuitry.
  • Specify and design CMOS/BCD analog and power circuits to meet performance, area, power, and schedule constraints.
  • Interface with layout, verification, test, product, and application engineers to bring products from initial concept through release to production.
  • Participate in discussions and draft documents concerning technical issues and other design aspects with internal teams and customers.
  • Initiate regular peer reviews with analog design engineers.
  • Guide layout of circuit blocks for high-speed performance and precision operations.
  • Run block-level and top-level mixed-mode simulations to meet datasheet parameters.

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits package; details provided during the hiring process.
