About The Position

The primary objective of this position is the Development, Implementation, and Validation of Utility Wind Turbine Power System simulation models to meet both the needs of the current utility scale wind turbine market and to inform the future needs of the market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years’ combined experience in Wind Turbine Power System and Drivetrain modelling above 100kW
  • Minimum of 10 years’ combined experience in Design, integration, testing, and product launch of large rotating machines
  • Minimum of 10 years’ combined experience in Developing motor drives, generators, actuator systems, and power conversion systems
  • Minimum of 10 years’ combined experience in Modelling generator/converter harmonics
  • Minimum of 10 years’ combined experience in Grid modeling and grid-connected power generation including LVRT
  • Minimum of 10 years’ combined experience in Magnetic and thermal FEA
  • Minimum of 10 years’ combined experience in Working within a Quality Management System

Responsibilities

  • Develop turbine Power System simulations to meet functional requirements of new turbine variants and to optimize functions of existing turbine variants. Scope could include generator to converter interactions, turbine sub-system development or full turbine power path modeling including grid connection
  • Participate in power converter specification, modeling and analysis
  • Develop turbine sub-system controls simulations
  • Prepare design documents and test procedures
  • Participate in Turbine Stage Gate and Design Development Process (leading and attending design reviews, developing and verifying system requirements, and managing portions of the turbine documentation package.)
  • Provide technical solutions to address specific questions to integrate wind power plant into the grid without impacting stability and reliability
  • Ensuring WEG's Power System Models can be certified to IEC61400
  • Participate in cross-functional teams developing control functionalities for power systems mainly related to wind turbines and power plant controllers
  • Define the electrical system of the turbine and the adequate protection functionally (TT / IT system / quantity of secondary circuits, ground fault detection)
  • Define the EMC concept of the turbine, with respect to power / signal cable layout, shielding concept, EMC filter requirements and transformer design
  • Provide technical solutions and support on items requiring Magnetic FEA Modeling on Motors and Generators.
  • Provide mentoring and training on Magnetic FEA
  • Provide support for grid modeling to NERC Studies
