About The Position

Renesas is seeking an experienced Principal EDA/CAD Engineer to provide technical leadership for global engineering compute and CAD infrastructure. The role combines hands-on engineering with architecture and operational responsibility across Linux compute environments, engineering workspaces, project provisioning, LSF integration, EDA license infrastructure, Perforce infrastructure, monitoring, and automation. The engineer will work closely with engineering, CAD, and IT/IS teams to develop scalable, reliable, and globally consistent environments for semiconductor development. The role covers compute and engineering infrastructure; project and workspace architecture; EDA licensing; automation and tool development; monitoring, metrics, and capacity planning; Linux OS and platform strategy; documentation, training, and support; LSF and batch compute; and Perforce infrastructure. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining automation and operational mechanisms, supporting infrastructure reliability and capacity planning, troubleshooting complex issues, documenting critical services, and helping regional teams standardize global infrastructure. Renesas is an embedded semiconductor solution provider with a global team of over 21,000 engineers and problem solvers in more than 30 countries. Its culture is described as Transparent, Agile, Global, Innovative, and Entrepreneurial. The position is not available remotely. Renesas offers a competitive benefits package; further details are provided during the hiring process.

  • Experience with EDA licensing and FlexNet-based licensing environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.
  • Experience developing production-quality engineering automation.
  • Ability to work across global engineering, CAD, and IT/IS organizations.
  • Strong technical documentation and knowledge-transfer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Perforce server administration and architecture.
  • LSF administration/integration experience.
  • FlexNet license-server architecture.
  • Grafana or similar infrastructure monitoring.
  • Jenkins/CI automation.
  • ServiceNow integration.
  • Cadence and other major semiconductor EDA-tool experience.
  • Linux infrastructure and RHEL migration experience.
  • Experience supporting geographically distributed engineering environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for global EDA compute infrastructure and Linux-based engineering environments.
  • Work with IT/IS on compute, storage, networking, and server requirements; support interactive and batch compute environments.
  • Contribute to infrastructure capacity planning, technical roadmaps, and troubleshooting of complex compute and engineering-environment problems.
  • Develop automation to improve infrastructure reliability and reduce manual administration.
  • Own and evolve engineering project and workspace architecture, including creation, initialization, and configuration mechanisms.
  • Ensure consistent environment setup across projects and sites while allowing project teams to customize environments within supported platform standards.
  • Develop interfaces between project configuration, PDKs, EDA tools, and engineering workflows, and reduce manual project setup and lifecycle work.
  • Provide technical leadership for global EDA license-server infrastructure and develop standardized deployment and administration approaches.
  • Develop and maintain automation for license updates, validation, and auditing.
  • Develop and maintain Python, shell, and other CAD infrastructure automation, utilities, and scripts.
  • Automate configuration generation, provisioning, monitoring, and administration; integrate CAD infrastructure with Jenkins/CI and service-management workflows where appropriate.
  • Improve infrastructure observability, auditability, and maintainability.
  • Develop infrastructure dashboards and metrics, monitor compute and license utilization, identify capacity, performance, reliability, and resource-efficiency risks, and support forward capacity planning.
  • Contribute to supported Linux OS strategy, coordinate EDA-tool compatibility with IT/IS, support Linux platform migrations, and define engineering requirements for infrastructure standards.
  • Maintain architecture and operational documentation, including scripts, configuration, dependencies, and recovery procedures.
  • Provide expert escalation for complex infrastructure problems; train CAD engineers and IT/IS teams; and establish sustainable primary and backup ownership for critical services.
  • Develop resilience and failover strategies and work with regional CAD and IT/IS teams to standardize global license infrastructure.
  • Support license-capacity monitoring and planning, and develop monitoring and reporting for license availability and utilization.
  • Provide EDA expertise for LSF-based compute environments; work with IT/IS on LSF architecture, provisioning, and resource sharing.
  • Develop methods to monitor compute utilization and efficiency, integrate project environments with batch compute, and identify or automate detection of inefficient or problematic workloads.
  • Provide engineering-side technical expertise for Perforce server infrastructure and operations, including architecture, administration, troubleshooting, and coordination with IT/IS on server lifecycle, availability, storage, backup, and operational ownership.
  • Develop automation and monitoring for Perforce infrastructure and maintain operational documentation and procedures.
