Senior Staff Backend Engineer

Meeru AI Inc•Pleasanton, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Meeru AI is building an AI-native platform for finance and accounting teams. It connects to enterprise financial systems—including ERPs, CRMs, billing platforms, and HRIS—and uses machine learning to turn operational data into grounded, auditable intelligence for finance leaders. The platform supports SaaS multi-tenant, SaaS single-tenant, and on-premises deployments across AWS, Azure, and GCP for Fortune 500 customers that require data isolation, auditability, and compliance. The Senior Staff Backend Engineer will own core platform services and the data-intensive computation layer that turns curated financial and operational data into correct, reproducible, traceable results. The role focuses on reusable, configuration-driven computation components, strong controls and guardrails for automated output, and results that reconcile and can be reproduced and audited. The engineer will provide technical leadership to the backend team and partner with data, AI, and product teams to translate domain logic into robust, reusable services. Correctness is a critical requirement because this layer’s output sits alongside externally reported financials. Results must be traceable to their sources, reproducible, and auditable. Clear guardrails must distinguish verifiable results from results requiring human review; the work must not conceal or alter incomplete calculations to make them appear complete.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of backend engineering experience in Python, Go, Java, or a similar language, including significant time at Staff+ level owning complex, data-intensive systems.
  • Production Python experience with strong service design and testing practices.
  • Advanced SQL and data modeling skills, including fluency with window functions and large-scale joins, and rigorous reasoning about correctness and performance.
  • Experience with set-based, reproducible computation over a data warehouse such as Snowflake or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience designing configuration-driven architecture, such as extensible services or rules engines where new use cases can be delivered through configuration rather than new code paths.
  • Strong system design skills for reliability, isolation, and reproducibility.
  • A strong correctness mindset, treating traceability, explainability, and reproducibility of every result as hard requirements.
  • Technical leadership experience setting patterns, reviewing designs, and mentoring engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Finance, accounting, or analytics domain experience, or genuine curiosity about financial statements and reconciliation.
  • Experience with dbt alongside Snowflake or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with multi-tenant or customer-hosted (on-premises) deployments, ideally across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
  • Experience with audit logging, data lineage, and feature-flag or controls systems.
  • Experience building auditable systems in regulated environments such as fintech, banking, or healthcare.
  • Exposure to machine learning, statistical workflows, or LLM application patterns sufficient to integrate them effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Own core backend services and the data-intensive computation layer of the platform.
  • Build reusable, configuration-driven computation components and services.
  • Enforce controls and guardrails over automated output, distinguishing verifiable results from those requiring human review.
  • Ensure results reconcile and are traceable to source, reproducible, and auditable.
  • Provide technical leadership by setting engineering patterns, reviewing designs, and mentoring engineers.
  • Partner with data, AI, and product teams to translate domain logic into robust, reusable services.
