About The Position

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada (ACLU of Nevada) seeks applicants for a Senior Staff Attorney position. As a member of ACLU of Nevada’s legal team, attorneys engage in strategic impact litigation to promote civil liberties and rights in the state of Nevada. This is an in-person, exempt, full-time position.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor with current admission to the Nevada bar
• At least five years of legal experience
• Excellent research, writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills
• Experience working in collaborative, diverse, team-based environments
• Deep and demonstrated commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and the principles traditionally valued by the ACLU

Nice To Haves

• A preference for litigation experience related to civil liberties

Responsibilities

• Proactively developing and engaging in litigation advancing civil liberties and civil rights in Nevada
• Representing the ACLU of Nevada and its clients in all aspects of a legal representation, from pre-litigation advocacy through trial and appeal
• Conducting training sessions and workshops related to civil liberties for the general public
• Working with various state, municipal, and school boards and their attorneys to resolve constitutional violations informally, when appropriate
• Engaging in public speaking and news media interviews to articulate the ACLU of Nevada’s views on a broad range of issues, in consultation with and by approval of the Legal Director and Executive Director
• Other duties as assigned by the Legal and Executive Directors
