Senior Staff Algorithm Engineer - Emerging Sensing Technologies
About The Position
The Senior Staff Algorithm Engineer will lead algorithm, modeling, and simulation work supporting emerging sensing technologies. The role develops models and analytical methods to understand complex biological and sensing phenomena, evaluate technology feasibility and performance limits, and inform technology investment decisions and development strategies. It explores novel sensing concepts and measurement methodologies across biological and physical domains, and contributes scientific rigor and technical leadership to long-term technology roadmaps. The engineer works with multidisciplinary teams, applying advanced analytics and machine learning to experimental data and communicating findings and recommendations to technical experts, business stakeholders, and senior leadership. The position is part of Dexcom’s Algorithms team, which evaluates novel sensing concepts and technologies that may support future health insights. The role is remote, with a home office and no requirement to live within commuting distance of a Dexcom site. A hybrid environment may be available for employees who live within commuting distance of a site. Travel is 0–5%.
Requirements
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Biophysics, Quantitative Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline with 5–7 years of industry experience; or an MS with 8–12 years of relevant experience.
- Strong foundation in mathematical modeling, simulation, statistics, and machine learning.
- Expertise in Python, MATLAB, or similar technical computing environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing first-principles and predictive models of complex systems.
- Ability to independently define technical problems, formulate hypotheses, design analyses, and derive actionable conclusions.
- Strong scientific curiosity and willingness to explore unfamiliar technical domains.
- Experience working in research, advanced development, or technology incubation environments.
- Ability to make progress despite incomplete information and evolving requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain highly technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Education and experience description also states that the role typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and 13+ years of related experience, a master’s degree and 8+ years of equivalent industry experience, or a PhD and 5+ years of experience.
