About The Position

Under the direction of the Controller, this role carries out a variety of analytics, project leadership, and accounting department responsibilities. The position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, with a minimum of three years of bank or banking-related experience preferred. The Senior Staff Accountant will manage or participate in finance division projects, complete regulatory reports, manage finance division reports, perform general ledger duties, review and process investment transactions, analyze funding positions, handle fixed asset duties, manage accounts payable, perform tax duties, and prepare complex bank accounting assessments. This role also involves providing leadership to finance department staff and ensuring appropriate retention of records. The position is based at the Main Office and offers a hybrid work schedule after six months of successful employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Minimum of two (3) years of bank or banking related experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and handle a wide variety of tasks at any given time.
  • PC knowledge, including ability to develop and utilize spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated analytical and organization skills.
  • Strong communication, both verbal and written skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a small team.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently provides superior professional service to internal and external customers.

  • Manage or participate in finance division projects, such as: development or enhancements to reporting, evaluation of new accounting systems and service vendors, business continuity and vendor management.
  • Complete regulatory reports for the FDIC and Federal Reserve Bank. Prepare, oversee preparation, and/or perform analytics related to Financial Statements for the Board and Management. Attend training to understand regulatory changes. Maintain and update related procedures. Develop efficiency in report preparation where possible; verify accuracy of source documents received from other divisions. Prepare various reports as needed related to loans, deposits, borrowings, etc. Prepare items as needed for audits, and for the Audited Financial Statements. Follow up on audit findings.
  • Manage finance division reports including Total Vision, General Ledger and any other system reports, including development of reports to improve and optimize information disbursement to management.
  • General ledger duties: prepare and maintain prepaid expense and accrued asset/liability accounts and entries, prepare entries, process transactions, reconcile accounts, review any of the above, produce reports.
  • Reviews and processes investment transactions, including payments, purchase & sales, accruals, and market value updates. Reconciles investment reports to general ledger or the bank’s investment custodian, for the bank, its subsidiaries and foundations. Produces various investment reports. Performs various investment analytics.
  • Daily analysis of funding position at Federal Reserve and other correspondent banks; determines and executes movement of funds, which may include borrowing and investing to maximize income opportunity while ensuring maintenance of adequate funds.
  • Fixed asset duties which include oversight, and may include entering purchases and sales into the fixed asset software system, depreciation processing, report generation, balancing of construction in progress accounts, preparing fixed assets for input, tracking capital expenditure requests.
  • Accounts Payable duties which may include: receiving bills, reviewing for proper approval, general ledger coding, system input, check generation and distribution, maintenance of use tax log, executive expenditures, and new vendors, 1099 coding, tracking, research, and generation, ACH payments to directors and employees, scans and maintains records, research and resolution of variety of payable issues.
  • Tax duties which may include payments, filing, calculations, reconciliations, returns, analytics related to income, withholding, sales and use tax, 1042 and 1099-Miscellaneous reporting.
  • Preparation and some analysis of complex bank accounting assessments, including but not limited to Allowance for Credit Loss analysis and Asset Liability Management.
  • Provides leadership to finance department staff; may review and approve various work items.
  • Appropriate retention of records.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities, as requested.
