About The Position

The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing compilation, review, and audit engagements from planning through completion. This role involves researching and resolving accounting and tax issues, providing practical recommendations, and coordinating client information requests. The Senior Staff Accountant will also identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend value-added solutions. Maintaining organized working paper files, accurately recording billable time, and staying current with accounting standards and tax legislation are key aspects of this position. Additionally, the role contributes to firm initiatives and promotes a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • CPA designation required, with membership in good standing with CPA Ontario.
  • Minimum three years of recent public accounting experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and Canadian income tax legislation.
  • Strong technical accounting and tax preparation skills with the ability to analyze complex financial information.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and corporate and personal tax returns within a public accounting environment.
  • Strong understanding of assurance and compilation engagement processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and client engagements simultaneously.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare compilation, review, and audit engagements from planning through completion.
  • Research and resolve accounting and tax issues, providing practical recommendations to clients and internal team members.
  • Coordinate client information requests and communicate engagement progress with managers and partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client processes and recommend value-added accounting, tax, and business solutions.
  • Maintain complete, organized, and accurate working paper files in accordance with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Accurately record billable time and assist with engagement planning and workflow management.
  • Stay current with changes to accounting standards, tax legislation, and industry best practices through ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to firm initiatives, process improvements, and the promotion of a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
