About The Position

The Senior Specimen Management Associate ensures that clinical specimens collected, received, stored, and shipped are accurately maintained, tracked, and managed for complete traceability and accountability. This role resolves routine specimen issues, maintains freezers and inventory, and guides entry-level staff on departmental procedures.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a natural science field or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science in a life science preferred
Laboratory experience preferred
Shipping and receiving experience preferred
Basic knowledge of laboratory systems, specimen accessioning procedures, freezer maintenance, and inventory management
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice regulations preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Other equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate specimen identification, documentation, traceability, and accountability
Ability to navigate laboratory systems, follow relevant procedures, and resolve routine operational challenges
Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
Clear and timely written and verbal communication skills
Ability to identify potential problems, assess their impact, and escalate issues appropriately
Self-motivation and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders
Commitment to continuing education, regulatory compliance, safety, quality, and 6S practices

Responsibilities

Accession, identify, sort, label, store, and ship clinical specimens while maintaining complete traceability and accountability
Investigate routine accessioning issues, identify errors or potential problems, and escalate complex matters to the appropriate senior staff
Notify customers of specimen receipt and respond to routine inquiries clearly, accurately, and promptly
Maintain freezers, specimen inventory, equipment, and associated records, and notify the appropriate staff of supply shortages
Guide entry-level employees on basic departmental procedures and support the onboarding of new staff
Support after-hours alarms and other job-critical functions when required
Communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and represent Specimen Management on assigned projects
Follow company procedures, applicable regulatory guidelines, and safety, quality, and 6S requirements
