About The Position

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a full-time Senior Specialist of Videography position in the Department of Marketing and Communications for the University of Lynchburg. This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Senior Manager of Campaigns and Content. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Senior Manager of Campaigns and Content and the Vice President of University Outreach. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. The Senior Specialist of Videography creates engaging, high-quality video content for a variety of university needs. The Video Producer will plan, shoot, edit, and finalize video projects that support university communications, marketing, online courses, and event coverage. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong visual storytelling ability and experience managing video production from concept to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film, Media Production, Communications, or a related field, with 3+ years of experience in video production (preferably within educational or nonprofit sectors).
  • Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or similar), experience with professional camera equipment, lighting, and audio gear.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills, with a creative approach to bringing messages to life.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities, capable of handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with various departments and team members.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment, set up gear, and stand for long periods during shoots.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience producing and shooting video content
  • Candidates must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.

Responsibilities

  • Develop compelling video content, including promotional videos, event recaps, instructional materials, and social media clips.
  • Plan and manage all stages of video production, from conceptualization and scripting to filming, editing, and final delivery.
  • Collaborate with university departments to understand project goals, develop storyboards or shot lists, scout locations, and schedule shoots.
  • Set up and operate cameras, lighting, and audio equipment; direct on-camera talent and manage crew during shoots to ensure high-quality footage.
  • Edit raw footage, add graphics, sound effects, music, and color grading to produce polished final cuts; manage feedback from stakeholders to achieve the desired result.
  • Maintain video and audio equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure equipment is organized and available for use.
  • Stay up-to-date on video production techniques, storytelling trends, and tools to enhance content and appeal to diverse audiences.
  • Organize and manage digital assets, store footage, and maintain an archive of completed projects for easy access and future use.
  • Supervise direct report(s) and participate in hiring committees for this and other roles in the department.
