About The Position

The Senior Specialist, Marine Technology Facilities is responsible for the Gasoline Engine Lab, Diesel Engine Lab, Welding Lab, and Boat Bay. This position is also responsible for the College-owned marine engineering engines, boats, and equipment used for the College’s degree and certification courses, non-credit courses, and equipment utilized by third parties under contract. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Marine and Applied Sciences. This is a grant-funded position; continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funds.

Highly skilled in servicing, repairing, and maintaining outboard gasoline engines and marine diesel engines.

Knowledge of outboard gasoline and diesel engine repair workstations and tools.
Ability to organize spaces and use resources effectively.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications.
Ability to commit to continued effort to stay current in program area.
Strong student orientation and ability to work with a diverse student population.
Ability to relate to faculty, staff, students, and the community.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Associate’s in Marine Engineering, Management, and Seamanship degree or other related field required.
A valid Florida Driver’s license.
Ability to use various hand and power tools for maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Ability to lift objects weighing up to 70lbs.

Nice To Haves

Professional experience preferred.
Small boat handling experience preferred.
Current Industry Certifications preferred (e.g., ABYC, Yamaha, AWS).

Responsibilities

Maintains strict inventory control of first-aid equipment in the Marine Technology facility.
Submits requisitions and orders for marine engineering and welding inventory, as necessary.
Obtains and adheres to applicable service and repair manuals for maintenance of CFK marine engineering and welding equipment.
Ensures repairs to all marine engineering systems, engines, welding machines, and equipment are documented in appropriate logs.
Follows current industry standards, procedures, and manufacturer requirements.
Conducts regularly scheduled preventative maintenance checks of hoists, cranes, through-floor hatches, air compressors, and safety equipment in the Marine Technology and Welding facilities.
Maintains, inspects, and overhauls gasoline and diesel engines (including generators) to meet manufacturer requirements.
Maintains and repairs Marine Engineering small vessels and trailers.
Works with Faculty to set up and clean up for in-class labs.
Works with Faculty to schedule lab assistants and duties.
Actively supports faculty and students in the lab and during lab activities.
Maintains inventory of equipment, tools, and parts.
Completes annual inventory of equipment on property list.
Maintains the College’s Marine Technology and Welding Facilities.
Holds current certifications in servicing and repair with appropriate manufacturer(s).
Assist with the maintenance of College’s vessels, as appropriate.
Implements and follows College Marine Engineering and Welding safety policies.
Maintains close liaison with other departments and contractors utilizing the Marine Technology and Welding facilities.
Attends training as required.
Assist in College recruitment and retention efforts, as appropriate.
Other related duties as assigned.
