About The Position

Seeking an experienced Senior Naval Architect to support The USCG Ship Design Team's vessel modernization, and repair programs. As a Senior Naval Architect, you will provide technical expertise in structural design, welding, fabrication, HM&E systems, and auxiliary systems development for major acquisition efforts. You will review engineering designs and shipbuilder deliverables for compliance with program requirements and design standards, supporting cutter modernization and structural design reviews. You will also provide technical guidance on welding, structural fabrication, and producibility, and support the development of specifications, SOWs, CDRLs, and technical responses during design reviews. Collaboration with the USCG Ship Design Team, Technical Authorities, shipbuilders, and multidisciplinary teams is essential to resolve integration issues and reduce technical risk. Additional duties include supporting dock trials, sea trials, stability tests, and speed-power evaluations.

Requirements

  • Secret clearance or ability to obtain one
  • BS or MS in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution
  • 3+ years of relevant experience required
  • Experience with HM&E systems, auxiliary systems, and technical package development

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years supporting ACAT I programs preferred
  • Experience with federal shipbuilding or boat acquisition programs preferred
  • Familiarity with USN and commercial ship design rules, including ABS / NVR

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in structural design, welding, fabrication, HM&E systems, and auxiliary systems development for major acquisition efforts.
  • Review engineering designs and shipbuilder deliverables for compliance with program requirements and design standard, supporting cutter modernization and structural design reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance on welding, structural fabrication, and producibility.
  • Support development of specifications, SOWs, CDRLs, and technical responses during design reviews.
  • Collaborate with the USCG Ship Design Team, Technical Authorities, shipbuilders, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve integration issues and reduce technical risk.
  • Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Support dock trials, sea trials, stability tests, and speed-power evaluations.
