About The Position

The successful candidate will join the Product Support Engineering team, supporting military communication products from pre-release through obsolescence. The role investigates RF/analog, digital, assembly, SMT, and test-related problems; diagnoses issues to the component level; determines solutions through simulation and experimentation; and implements corrective actions. The engineer also supports new product launches by working with design engineering on root cause analysis and prototype troubleshooting to ensure successful transition to full-rate production. The position involves addressing component shortages and obsolescence, improving design, processes, tests, yields, quality, and manufacturability, and introducing new designs into manufacturing. The Senior Specialist provides technical direction to junior staff and small technical teams, leads investigations, coordinates work, and communicates technical findings and recommendations to management and support teams. The role requires working across organizational functions and with vendors, Quality, and Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 4 years of related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 10 years of prior related RF experience.
  • At least 4 years of RF experience.
  • Hardware troubleshooting ability, including analog and RF components and circuits.
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision.
  • Ability to design and conduct engineering experiments and act on test results.
  • Ability to use ADS, Matlab, and other design and simulation tools for circuit and component design and analysis.
  • Experience leading small technical design or troubleshooting teams and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and interface with multiple organizational teams.
  • Ability to use typical laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, DMMs, spectrum and network analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Ability to learn quickly, solve problems, and work independently with self-motivation.
  • Ability to analyze designs and communicate technical information to support staff.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Mitigate component shortages by qualifying alternatives or redesigning circuits and subassemblies.
  • Identify design, process, and test improvements to increase test yields and product quality.
  • Collaborate on manufacturability, testability, and other DFx requirements for volume production.
  • Work with design engineering and manufacturing teams to introduce new designs into manufacturing.
  • Make necessary circuit changes before and during new product launches.
  • Mitigate component obsolescence throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff, assist with investigations, lead investigations, and coordinate tasks.
  • Work with vendors, Quality, and Supply Chain to address material discrepancies.
  • Design and analyze circuits and components using ADS, Matlab, and other design and simulation tools.
  • Lead small technical design or troubleshooting teams, provide direction, and prioritize tasks to meet target yields and shipments.
