Senior RF Design Engineer

RTX•Marlborough, MA
•$86,800 - $165,200•Onsite

About The Position

Raytheon, part of RTX, is hiring an electrical engineer to apply RF design theory and experience in design and testing across architectures, subsystems, components, and Active Electronically Steered Antennas (AESAs). The role uses knowledge of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) and electromagnetic and microwave theory. It includes designing and hands-on testing of microwave components, cards, and systems, and providing technical support to production activities. Team leadership, cost and schedule management, proposal writing, and presentation experience are desired. This is an onsite position at one of the Massachusetts locations in Andover, Tewksbury, or Marlborough; assignments depend on business or program needs. Some travel to integration sites and customer and subcontractor facilities may be required. An active and transferable U.S. government security clearance is required before starting, and the candidate must be able to obtain an interim clearance before the start date. U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

  • Typically, a STEM degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in microwave/RF system, subsystem, and/or component analysis, design, and/or testing.
  • Experience with an electromagnetic simulation tool such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Genesys, or Mentor Graphics’ Xpedition/Cadence Virtuoso, and an analytical tool such as Matlab.
  • Experience performing basic RF calculations and cascaded analysis.
  • U.S. citizenship; only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance.
  • An active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required before the start date, with the ability to obtain an interim clearance before the start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Background designing and testing analog CCAs, including frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design, and analog filter design.
  • Experience in electrical interconnects and transmission-line design.
  • Understanding of RF layout techniques from HF to X-Band.
  • Understanding of EMI analysis and mitigation techniques.
  • Willingness to learn through self-study and comfort working in a multitasking environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of allocating and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level.
  • Experience designing RF/Microwave MMIC circuits, modules, or test fixtures.
  • Experience with GaAs and/or GaN MMIC devices.
  • Experience with integrated-circuit layout and physical verification using Cadence Virtuoso software tools.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor processing and concepts, including GaAs, GaN, and SOI technologies.
  • Strong academic background including coursework in Microwave Engineering, Microwave Systems, Electromagnetic Theory, and Radar Systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with microwave testing techniques using spectrum analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), and Performance Network Analyzers (PNAs).
  • Experience in technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentations.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
  • Team leadership skills, including cost and schedule management.

Responsibilities

  • Design RF microwave components and phased-array applications.
  • Develop insights and concepts in the RF/Microwave field that may lead to new theories and products.
  • Design and/or test MMIC or module products and RF/microwave test fixtures.
  • Integrate and test component-level and system-level phased-array hardware.
  • Provide technical support to production activities.
  • Travel to integration sites, customer facilities, and subcontractor facilities as required.
