About The Position

YWCA Canada is seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented Senior Specialist who can effectively multitask, and brings strong content creation skills to impactful integrated campaigns, digital platforms, and storytelling. Reporting to the National Communications Director, the Senior Specialist plays a key role in executing and coordinating the organization’s communications activities across all platforms and channels, in both English and French. This role is responsible for creating compelling and accessible content, supporting communications planning, managing social media and website updates, and contributing to storytelling that highlights the impact of YWCA Canada’s work. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, efficient and proactive communicator who is comfortable managing multiple communications projects simultaneously and exercising sound judgement while working both independently and collaboratively. They bring exceptional writing, editing, and digital content skills in English and French, along with an ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging messages for diverse audiences. Working closely with National Communications Director, the Senior Specialist supports the delivery of communications initiatives by producing high-quality content, monitoring performance metrics, maintaining communications systems, and ensuring brand and accessibility standards are consistently applied. This role also contributes to strengthening engagement with key audiences by monitoring media and social conversations, supporting storytelling efforts, and identifying opportunities to amplify the organization’s work and impact.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field, supported by relevant post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional writing, design, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to create clear, compelling, and accessible content for a variety of audiences and platforms.
  • Experience creating and managing digital communications, including social media accounts (content planning, scheduling, engagement, and performance monitoring), newsletters, web content, and promotional materials.
  • Demonstrated experience working with content management systems (CMS) to update and maintain website content, as well as social media scheduling platforms, email marketing platforms, and analytics tools.
  • Proficiency creating visual content using Canva or similar graphic design tools.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements in communications is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to YWCA Canada’s mission, vision, and values, with an understanding of feminist, anti‑racist, and anti‑oppressive approaches.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in both English and French, including the ability to translate communications content accurately and appropriately for both audiences—is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of marketing and communications plans aligned with organizational priorities
  • Plan and coordinate campaigns, content, and initiatives in collaboration with the National Director of Communications
  • Develop and manage content calendars and editorial planning for key initiatives (e.g., Feminist Agenda, social media, campaigns, Days of Significance)
  • Write, edit, and produce clear, engaging content for multiple audiences and platforms (e.g., newsletters, blogs, campaigns, social media, announcements)
  • Develop campaign materials and communications assets for awareness and fundraising initiatives
  • Create graphic and promotional materials using Canva and other tools
  • Ensure all materials align with brand standards, templates, and accessibility requirements
  • Manage and maintain website content to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and timeliness
  • Plan, draft, schedule, and publish social media content across platforms
  • Monitor social media engagement, respond to inquiries, and identify opportunities to increase reach and audience growth
  • Ensure consistency in messaging, formatting, and visual identity across all digital channels
  • Track and analyze communications performance (e.g., social media, website, campaigns, newsletters)
  • Prepare regular reports, including quarterly metrics and campaign summaries
  • Support communications for events, including promotional materials, signage, and collateral
  • Coordinate photography and ensure key moments are captured
  • Maintain departmental assets (e.g., camera equipment, printed materials, business cards) and ensure readiness for events
  • Ensure communications materials comply with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and organizational accessibility standards.
  • Perform other duties as required
