About The Position

The Aerospace Corporation, operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), is seeking a Senior Space Domain Awareness and Space Control Engineer to join the Enterprise Effects Division (EED) and the Space Control and Awareness Department (SCAD). This role will provide project and technical leadership, analytical support, algorithm development, systems engineering and architecting, and modeling and simulation analysis for space protection, space threat susceptibility, directed energy analysis, and space domain awareness. The candidate will potentially interact directly with government customers and Aerospace program office personnel in Colorado Springs, and collaborate with personnel in El Segundo, CA, and Chantilly, VA. The SCAD department focuses on concept development, systems engineering, architecture analysis, algorithm development, and evaluation support for national security space customers, with an emphasis on electronic warfare (EW), directed energy (DE) effects, space domain awareness (SDA), Radar, Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) sensors, orbit determination, and space protection and security.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in mathematics, engineering, physics, computer science or equivalent, or a bachelor’s degree with twelve (12) years of applicable experience.
• Demonstrated experience within the SDA and space control mission areas or MW/MT/MD mission areas.
• Experience with, or understanding of, electronic warfare and directed energy effects.
• Experience in modeling, simulation, analysis, and/or algorithm development.
• Led development of computer tools and simulations to support analyses of interdisciplinary support teams and performing general systems engineering and integration support.
• Experience in at least one the following programming languages; Java, C++, Python, MATLAB, C, or FORTRAN.
• Good interpersonal communication and briefing skills along with the ability to work independently and interact effectively with high-level government, Aerospace, and contractor personnel.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Current TS/SCI clearance.
• Background in command and control.
• Experience with EO/IR sensors, especially for missile warning/missile defense.
• Operational experience as an orbit analyst, space control operator, battle manager in the air, maritime or missile domains, or an Air Force weapons school graduate.
• Experience with, or understanding of, electronic warfare and/or passive RF collection modeling.
• Experience with space surveillance network sensor operations, or other SOSI network sensor operations.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to risk and resilience assessments over a broad range of threats to satellite operations including, but not limited to, RF and optical interference and counterspace threats.
• Support focus areas of the department, which could include modeling and risk assessments of kinetic threats (such as debris and collision), Space Domain Awareness, and mission operations.
• Support Space Control activities, such as electronic and orbital warfare and directed energy operations.
• Conduct a range of analysis using a framework of modeling, simulation and analysis capabilities including in-house, custom and commercially available/government provided modeling tools.
• Analyze electro-optical (EO), infrared (IR), radar and passive radio frequency (RF) sensor concepts, architectures, and algorithms.
• Support Exercises and Wargaming.
• Directly support the technical lead for a modeling and simulation effort for the Space Security and Defense Program by providing analysis, development support and guidance of early career engineers.
• Provide independent assessments and lead studies with teams of analysts.
