About The Position

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Solutions Architect to support US Government customers in the BWI / Jessup, MD area. This role involves helping U.S. Intelligence Community agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems using the latest cloud computing technologies. The Solutions Architect will assist these groups in understanding application architectures and integration approaches, and possess the consultative and leadership skills to launch projects successfully. Familiarity with security best practices for applications, servers, and networks is required. The position is part of the business development team, helping establish Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a leading technology platform, and involves contributing technical opinions to planning and strategies. AWS is looking for experienced and motivated technologists who align with their Leadership Principles and have a balance of technical depth and strong interpersonal skills. The architect will partner with customers, AWS Sales, and other AWS teams to craft highly scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures for Intelligence Community customers, accelerating AWS service adoption. In collaboration with sales, the role drives revenue growth. As a trusted customer advocate, the solutions architect will guide organizations on best practices for advanced cloud-based solutions and migration of existing workloads. The role offers the opportunity to shape and execute a strategy to build mindshare and broad use of AWS within the Intelligence Community. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a proven track record in software/technology sales or consulting, capable of connecting technology with measurable business value, and able to think strategically about business, products, and technical challenges. The role emphasizes being enjoyable to work with, passionate about educating and building cloud solutions for Intelligence Community customers, and having a strong understanding of large-scale computing solutions, with past experience as a systems or support engineer and pre-sales experience. Continuous technical skill development and participation in deep-dive education and design exercises are expected.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
  • 6+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
  • Experience effectively communicating to and presenting technical solutions to a diverse set of technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior business leaders, analysts, IT management and developers.
  • Experience defining technical solutions, in order to meet business objectives.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree, or CASP+ (CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner) or CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional) or Cloud+ or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional)
  • 10+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience
  • Experience architecting or deploying Cloud/Virtualization solutions in enterprise customers
  • Experience architecting infrastructure solutions using both Linux/Unix and Windows with specific recommendations on server, load balancing, HA/DR, & storage architectures
  • Knowledge of software development tools and methodologies
  • Professional experience architecting/deploying/operating solutions built on AWS
  • Understanding of Federal Government application, server, and network security requirements such as ICD 503, FISMA and FedRAMP.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the sales team, formulate and execute a sales strategy to exceed revenue objectives through the adoption of AWS
  • As a key member of the business development and sales team, ensure success in building and migrating applications, software and services on the AWS platform
  • Educate customers of all sizes on the value proposition of AWS, and participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in the cloud
  • Conduct one-to-few and one-to-many training sessions to transfer knowledge to customers considering or already using AWS
  • Capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the AWS solutions architect community
  • Author or otherwise contribute to AWS customer-facing publications such as whitepapers and other reusable content
  • Build deep relationships with senior technical individuals within customers to enable them to be cloud advocates
  • Act as a technical liaison between customers, service engineering teams and support
