About The Position

Lumai is redefining how the world computes with its AI accelerator for data centers that uses 3D optical compute. This technology offers significantly faster speeds, greater scales, and lower energy consumption compared to traditional methods, aiming to transform AI and compute infrastructure economics. Lumai, a University of Oxford spinout founded in 2022, specializes in using optical processing to accelerate large language models and transformer-based AI systems. The company has secured over $15 million in investment and is rapidly scaling to deploy the fastest optical compute globally. The role of Senior Solutions Architect is crucial for bringing Lumai's optical compute inference platform to market, acting as the technical lead for customer engagements.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in a solutions architecture, technical pre-sales, or senior field engineering role within AI infrastructure, high-performance compute, semiconductors, or a comparable deep-tech hardware domain.
  • Strong working knowledge of AI inference at scale, including how large language models are deployed.
  • Familiarity with data center architecture: rack power, thermal, networking, and integration with existing software stacks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discovery with sophisticated customers and translate requirements into a solution.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous, pre-product environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience selling into, or working within, hyperscalers, neo-clouds, frontier AI labs, or national laboratories.
  • Awareness of the competitive landscape and how Lumai's optical approach is positioned against it.
  • Background or genuine curiosity in novel compute - photonics, optical computing, or other post-silicon architectures.
  • Enough hands-on credibility with benchmarking and performance analysis that customer ML and infrastructure engineers respect your reading of results.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical relationship with customers, working alongside Lumai’s business development lead.
  • Conduct deep technical discovery with customer infrastructure and ML engineering teams.
  • Translate customer requirements into a Lumai-based solution, mapping needs against near-term and roadmap solutions.
  • Define the scope of customer engagements, including benchmarks, proof of concepts, reference architectures, or statements of work.
  • Work hands-on with Lumai's benchmark team to scope, run, and interpret benchmarks, and present the results.
  • Produce the technical case for Lumai, including proposals, solution documentation, and responses to RFIs, RFPs, and tenders.
  • Design and deliver demos and technical workshops for customer technical teams.
  • Feed customer requirements, evaluation feedback, and roadmap reactions back into product and engineering teams to influence the Lumai roadmap.

Benefits

  • Highly Competitive Salary
  • Share Option Scheme
  • $500 annual L&D Allowance
  • 25 days paid holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • Occasional all-company off-sites, lunches and socials
