About The Position

Under general supervision provided by Solid Waste Operations Supervisor, performs technical and localized supervision over assigned Solid Waste Urban Transfer Station. This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and administration of an individual public solid waste collection station, ensuring all equipment and facilities are properly operated and maintained. The position involves supervising the dumping of permitted refuse, determining the best material handling practices for incoming solid waste, and ensuring efficient truck loading to maximize refuse density and decrease hauling costs. The Senior Solid Waste Worker also monitors and makes on-site corrections/modifications as required, determines appropriate charges, receives fees, monitors revenue, and handles cash receipts and deposits. Additionally, the role involves preparing and maintaining daily work reports and supervising and scheduling employees assigned to the Solid Waste Urban Transfer Station, which may include inmate labor. The employee ensures continuous training for staff in solid waste operations to meet customer expectations and support a healthy and sanitary environment.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years progressively responsible experience working in the material handling industry generally, or solid waste industry, construction, trucking environment specifically
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s License
  • Ability to be covered by county insurance
  • Considerable knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to transfer station operation
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of transfer station equipment
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and proper safety precautions
  • Considerable knowledge of material handling techniques
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision
  • Considerable knowledge of cash handling procedures and basic accounting principles
  • Considerable skill in the use and application of modern office equipment and procedures
  • Considerable skill in supervising the work of others
  • Considerable skill in assigning and scheduling work
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public
  • Ability to regularly handle the lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction

  • Six (6) months of customer service experience
  • Simple bookkeeping experience
