About The Position

MANTECH seeks a career- and customer-oriented Senior Software Systems Lead for a future opportunity in Lexington Park, Maryland. This hybrid position requires three days onsite and two days remote per week. The role serves as the primary technical authority for a high-priority Department of Defense Modeling & Simulation initiative, architecting and guiding scalable simulation platforms and advising government stakeholders as a Trusted Technology Advisor. The position focuses on leadership, digital transformation, and advanced software systems design for battlespace simulation. The role leads software architecture for real-time simulation and complex behavior modeling; guides migration from legacy frameworks to cloud-native, DevSecOps-enabled platforms; and oversees distributed simulation protocol integration into the GRID-based Joint Simulation Environment. It also develops simulation capabilities, mentors multidisciplinary teams, and leads testing and root-cause analysis. An active Top Secret clearance with current SCI eligibility is required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
At least 10 years of progressively responsible software engineering experience, including direct support to Modeling & Simulation initiatives.
Expertise in both on-premises and cloud-based development environments, including Azure and AWS.
Expert-level C++ proficiency and demonstrated experience designing and implementing high-performance simulation systems.
Hands-on experience with commercially available development tools, including Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket), Git, and Microsoft Visual Studio.
Proven track record leading digital transformation initiatives using Agile methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.
Active Top Secret clearance with current SCI eligibility.
Ability to remain stationary approximately 50% of the time.
Ability to move occasionally throughout office spaces to access equipment and files or interact with coworkers.
Ability to communicate effectively with team members, leadership, and customers, including in presentations, and convey accurate technical information.

Nice To Haves

Experience with development and deployment in multi-level security environments.
Experience using cloud-based development environments and tools.
Direct experience supporting tactical aviation systems and distributed battlespace environments.
In-depth understanding of synthetic environment generation platforms such as NGTS, JSAF, or equivalent frameworks.
Strong communication skills, including presenting complex engineering trade-offs to senior technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Serve as the principal technical liaison between engineering teams and government stakeholders, advising on software strategy, GOTS/COTS procurement, and performance.
Direct top-level software architectures for real-time simulation and complex behavior modeling, recommending infrastructure to improve scalability and reduce lifecycle costs.
Lead the transition from legacy frameworks to cloud-native, DevSecOps-enabled simulation platforms aligned with contemporary digital engineering standards.
Oversee integration of DIS, HLA, and TENA distributed simulation protocols into the GRID-based Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) to support cross-domain interoperability.
Develop simulation capabilities, including models, hardware interfaces, and user interfaces, using C++ and modern development frameworks.
Mentor multidisciplinary development teams and enforce standards for code quality and configuration management, while improving documentation and knowledge transfer.
Define test-plan strategies and lead root-cause analysis for critical system-level software issues.
