Lead engineering teams responsible for the foundational infrastructure of the Google Compute Engine (GCE) Control Plane Platform. The role combines technical leadership and people management, including managing engineers across multiple teams and locations, overseeing large-scale projects across international sites, contributing to product strategy, and developing the team. The position focuses on shifting to cellular architectures and multi-dimensional sharding to contain deployment blast radius and prevent multi-regional failures. It also involves moving telemetry toward customer-perceived sensitivity, applying AI-driven anomaly detection and automated rollbacks, modernizing resource conservation with dynamic throttling and adaptive quotas for AI workloads, and establishing automated validation pipelines to ensure data stores meet strict RPO/RTO objectives and remain resilient. The manager will scale high-performing teams and build a “Reliable by Design” environment for GCE, fostering an engineering culture focused on blast-radius containment, hitless maintenance, and dynamic capacity assurance. The role also guides automated disaster recovery for a rapidly scaling AI fleet and leads initiatives to enhance platform security and automate continuous compliance. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The listed U.S. salary range is $262,000–$364,000, plus a 25% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
