Senior Software Engineering Manager, Financial Platform

ZiplineFort Worth, TX
$200,000 - $275,000

About The Position

We are looking for a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead Zipline’s Financial Platform team. This role is responsible for building the layer that turns Zipline’s operational activity into accurate, auditable, scalable financial systems. As Zipline grows across commercial delivery, marketplace-style partnerships, manufacturing, inventory, and global operations, we need financial systems that can keep pace with the business. You will lead a small team of software engineers building the platforms that support pricing, billing, tax, payments, credits, refunds, partner settlement, reconciliation, financial events, inventory costing, manufacturing finance, ERP integrations, and finance data products. We are looking for someone who believes in building high-leverage custom software where it matters, integrating with third-party systems where appropriate, and creating durable platforms that help the business scale. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering manager who has grown from a strong software engineering background, can lead and coach a small team of engineers, and still has the technical depth to shape architecture and implementation. They bring a product mindset, finance or accounting domain knowledge, and experience building financial systems in complex operational environments. You will work directly with Finance, Commercial, Manufacturing, Operations, Data, and Software Engineering to understand the real business problems, question requirements, define the roadmap, and build the systems that allow Zipline to scale with financial accuracy and operational speed. The best candidates for this role are scrappy builders who understand enterprise complexity without being constrained by enterprise software playbooks. You should be comfortable managing a small team, writing code when needed, shaping architecture, and understanding problems deeply enough to build systems that solve the real business need, not just the stated request.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering background, ideally as a senior engineer, tech lead, or hands-on engineering manager
  • Experience leading software engineers while staying close to architecture and implementation
  • Experience building custom in-house financial, commerce, marketplace, ERP-adjacent, or operational systems
  • Finance or accounting domain knowledge, with the ability to understand concepts like billing, revenue, reconciliation, inventory costing, COGS, close, controls, and auditability
  • Strong product mindset and ability to work directly with business stakeholders to define problems, outcomes, and roadmaps
  • Ability to challenge requirements constructively and separate the real problem from the requested solution
  • Strong systems thinking across operational workflows, financial data, enterprise integrations, and business processes
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and building from first principles
  • Bias toward custom software where it creates strategic leverage, paired with pragmatic judgment about when to integrate third-party systems
  • Ability to move quickly while maintaining correctness in systems where financial accuracy matters
  • Strong communication skills with Finance, engineering, operations, and leadership stakeholders
  • High ownership, low ego, and a practical builder mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building financial platforms for marketplaces, commerce, delivery, logistics, restaurant-tech, fintech, or high-volume transaction businesses
  • Experience with pricing, billing, tax, payments, refunds, credits, settlement, or reconciliation systems
  • Experience with inventory costing, manufacturing finance, cost accounting, or ERP integrations
  • Experience building financial event streams, ledger systems, or auditable transaction platforms
  • Experience supporting Finance teams through scale, close automation, audit readiness, or financial controls
  • Experience in high-growth, operationally complex environments where software has to reflect messy real-world workflows

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of software engineers responsible for Zipline’s financial systems
  • Build and evolve systems for commercial monetization, including a billing engine, pricing, fees, tax, payments, refunds, credits, partner settlement, and reconciliation
  • Develop financial event models and ledger-like systems that create reliable, auditable transaction records across Zipline’s operations
  • Partner with Finance to reduce manual workflows, improve close processes, strengthen controls, and create scalable financial operations
  • Support manufacturing finance needs, including inventory costing, cost accounting, COGS visibility, and ERP integration
  • Own the roadmap and product discovery process for Finance Systems, working directly with Finance and cross-functional business partners
  • Define the long-term platform vision for how financial data, financial events, and operational systems should connect across Zipline
  • Balance fast iteration with long-term architecture, auditability, correctness, and maintainability
  • Contribute hands-on technically, including code, design reviews, architecture, debugging, and implementation where needed
  • Build systems that integrate cleanly with a custom built ERP solution, accounting, tax, reporting, and other third-party systems

Benefits

  • equity compensation
  • overtime pay
  • discretionary annual or performance bonuses
  • sales incentives
  • medical, dental and vision insurance
  • paid time off
