Senior Software Engineer

LineVision, Inc.Boston, MA
$140,000 - $155,000Hybrid

About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Applications (LineRate) team and build full-stack systems that turn massive time-series sensor data into the ratings our utility customers rely on. You will work across the ratings generation library, our customer-deployable product, weather modeling tools, and the front end visualizations that surface it all. If you want to own hard technical problems end-to-end and help shape how utilities get affordable, reliable power onto the grid, join us at LineVision, Built In Boston Best Places to Work!

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, with working experience in React.
  • Experience with at least one relational database and one NoSQL database.
  • Experience deploying and operating on a major cloud platform.
  • Comfort working across the stack, from data storage through APIs to UI.
  • Critical Thinking: Analyze complex problems in ratings generation, weather modeling, or time-series storage independently and propose sound solutions. Demonstrate a curious mindset in exploring new approaches.
  • Delivering Innovative Solutions: Devise and iterate on technical solutions with a growth mindset. Bring creative, well-reasoned approaches to novel problems across the stack.
  • Taking Ownership: Lead projects with minimal supervision, taking full ownership of outcomes. Communicate proactively when scope or technical constraints shift.
  • Follow Through – Execution: Deliver quality work on time. Resolve open questions proactively with stakeholders and hold yourself accountable to team commitments.
  • Empowering Others: Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge freely. Foster a supportive team environment where outcomes matter more than individual output.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Rust.
  • Experience working with large-scale time-series data sets.
  • Background collaborating closely with data science or applied science teams to productionize research code.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data scientists to productionalize core computational functionality, turning research code into reliable, scalable services.
  • Work with UI/UX teams to design and build APIs that surface the right data at the right time.
  • Design efficient storage and retrieval strategies for massive time-series data sets.
  • Contribute across our core codebases: the ratings generation library and its microservice, the slimmed-down customer-deployable product, weather modeling tools, and front end visualizations.
  • Advise product on roadmap priorities, balancing customer benefit against time to implement.
  • Ship meaningful contributions to at least one core codebase (ratings library, customer product, weather modeling, or front end) with minimal guidance within the first 3 months.
  • Build working relationships with data science and UI/UX counterparts and understand how the codebases connect within the first 3 months.
  • Demonstrate command of our Python/TypeScript stack and time-series data patterns within the first 3 months.
  • Own an end-to-end feature that spans backend logic and the APIs or UI that expose it within the first 6 months.
  • Contribute a concrete improvement to how we store or retrieve time-series data at scale within the first 6 months.
  • Participate in roadmap discussions, bringing a technical point of view on feasibility and tradeoffs within the first 6 months.
  • Become a go-to resource for at least one core codebase, trusted with architectural decisions within the first year.
  • Lead a cross-functional initiative with data science or UI/UX from scoping through delivery within the first year.
  • Mentor at least one other engineer through code review, pairing, and consistent feedback within the first year.
