Senior Software Engineer

Cover GeniusVancouver, BC
CA$135,000 - CA$175,000

About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on our Global Insurance Platform team, you'll build and evolve CG Admin, the internal platform that powers how Cover Genius configures and operates insurance products at scale for its global partners like Booking.com, Skyscanner, and Ryanair. This is where product setup, pricing, underwriting rules, and policy lifecycle come together, and where the correctness and reliability of what we ship directly affects live policies and real money. We're building AI-first. You'll use agentic tools like Claude Code and Gemini as core parts of your workflow, not as novelties, but as multipliers that let a small team ship like a big one. You'll shape how we integrate AI into development practices, from code generation to testing to documentation, and help define what "agentic software engineering" looks like at Cover Genius. You'll join an established team as a senior individual contributor. You'll take ownership of complex, high-impact areas of the platform, raise the technical bar (including how we apply AI), and mentor engineers, with high ownership and real impact from day one.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in software development, with a track record of shipping production systems.
  • Fluent with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini, or similar). You've integrated them into real workflows, not just experimented.
  • Working understanding of LLMs beyond code generation.
  • Deep experience with Node.js and TypeScript; hands-on experience with NestJS or similar frameworks. Front-end experience (React) is valuable given CG Admin is a full-stack web application.
  • Polyglot mindset, comfortable picking up new languages; experience or exposure to Python or PHP is a plus.
  • Experience building complex, domain-rich applications (internal platforms, admin/back-office tooling, or configuration systems) where correctness matters.
  • Strong understanding of API design, microservices architectures, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Solid grasp of relational databases, data modeling, and event-driven patterns.
  • Comfort with ambiguity; you've built systems where requirements were discovered along the way.
  • Strong communication skills; able to document decisions, write clear specs, and influence without authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Front-end experience (React) is valuable given CG Admin is a full-stack web application.
  • Experience or exposure to Python or PHP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build features across CG Admin, from configuration workflows to the services behind them, that make complex insurance setup safe, fast, and repeatable.
  • Use AI tools (Claude Code, Gemini) as core workflow accelerators; develop prompt strategies and agentic workflows that multiply your output.
  • Own complex areas of the platform end-to-end, balancing speed of delivery with the durability a mission-critical internal system demands.
  • Drive technical quality through code reviews, design discussions, and by setting standards that raise the bar for AI-augmented development.
  • Partner with product and with the operations, configuration, and platform teams who use CG Admin daily, translating their needs into well-designed tooling.
  • Mentor engineers in AI-first development practices; help the team adopt tools and workflows that make everyone more effective.
  • Own reliability, correctness, and observability for the areas you lead; catch data-integrity and configuration errors before they reach live policies.
