About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on Apple Services Engineering, you will help develop the next generation of Apple’s cloud services infrastructure, working on CloudKit, Apple’s privacy-focused database platform. CloudKit securely stores users’ data and synchronizes it across Apple devices. It is a strongly consistent database of structured data serving billions of active Apple customers, designed to be performant, highly available, and scalable. CloudKit supports developers building collaborative and secure applications and provides the storage foundation for iCloud experiences such as Photos, Drive, Notes, Keynote, and News, as well as third-party applications. As a member of a versatile engineering organization, you will introduce foundational capabilities that power new applications and scale existing ones. The role calls for expertise in fault-tolerant distributed systems, leadership, and the ability to work in a complex environment focused on customer experience.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of industry experience developing software in Java, C, or C++.
  • Experience with distributed NoSQL and relational database technologies.
  • Expertise in synchronous and asynchronous network application I/O frameworks.
  • Expertise in programming in concurrent and multithreaded environments.
  • Industry experience building and operating large-scale, multitier distributed systems.
  • A bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field or equivalent related experience.
  • Strong background with key-value data stores such as FoundationDB, DynamoDB, or Cassandra.
  • Strong fundamentals in storage systems, including schema design, indexes, and transactions.
  • Familiarity with high-performance caching mechanisms such as Redis or Memcached.
  • Familiarity with event streaming and queueing systems such as Kafka.
  • Experience using AWS, GCP, and cloud-native technologies such as containers, Kubernetes, and gRPC.
  • Experience with TLS, X.509 certificates, or similar security and cryptographic protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support a multi-tenant platform using many underlying technologies.
  • Partner with teams across Apple to develop and ship new customer-facing features.
  • Drive end-to-end project execution, from design reviews through production releases.
  • Deploy, scale, and maintain highly concurrent, throughput-intensive services.
  • Triage, investigate, and remediate production and operational issues.
