Electronic Arts•Vancouver, BC
•CA$141,400 - CA$204,400•Hybrid

About The Position

Electronic Arts (EA) develops Frostbite, its proprietary game engine, which powers titles across EA SPORTS, Battlefield, and other studios. The Frostbite Animation team develops the core platform and runtime frameworks that underpin character animation technologies across EA’s AAA games. The Senior Software Engineer will work on runtime animation systems, authoring tools, and asset pipelines used by content creators at EA studios worldwide. The role includes maintaining critical frameworks and advancing technical initiatives such as memory and performance optimization and dynamic or live content workflows. The position is hybrid and reports to the Character Technologies Development Director.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong C++ and C# programming skills, including experience with object-oriented design, multithreading, and memory management.
  • Experience with 3D math, including transforms, rotations, quaternions, and skeletal kinematics.
  • Experience with game-engine architecture, runtime animation evaluation graphs, or asset-authoring pipelines.
  • Experience using performance-profiling and memory-analysis tools to debug CPU or memory bottlenecks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Frostbite animation tools and frameworks or similar proprietary engine architectures.
  • Experience with headless scripting, asset serialization pipelines, state machines, or real-time simulation.
  • Experience supporting live-content systems, dynamic cinematic generation, or user-generated content workflows.
  • Hands-on experience targeting modern console platforms, including PlayStation and Xbox, and with build automation or CI systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build performant systems for the runtime animation engine in C++ and for content-creator authoring tools and editor extensions in C#.
  • Own core animation features and subsystems from technical design through production, testing, multi-platform deployment, and release stability.
  • Improve runtime performance and memory usage, including reducing memory footprints and enabling headless scripting operations.
  • Support production stability, release pipelines, build-farm issues, and partner escalations across active EA SPORTS and AAA game teams.
  • Work with animators, technical artists, and game development teams to translate creative concepts into performant engine features, including dynamic cinematic generation, live content updates, and character interaction workflows.
  • Manage technical debt, reduce codebase divergence across title branches, and participate in architecture and code reviews to maintain long-term code health.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and foster engineering best practices.

Benefits

  • Three weeks of vacation per year to start in Canada.
  • 10 days of sick time per year.
