Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
Join our Compute team! Our team's mission is to accelerate innovation by making computing simple, scalable, accessible, and affordable for all. We provide the infrastructure and services that enable developers to build next-generation applications. We take ownership of the design and development of core compute interfaces, virtualization management, APIs, and low-level platform services. We create an experience that allows the world to seamlessly deploy and scale workloads across multi-architecture environments. In this role, you'll work on core compute platform infrastructure and APIs powering instance orchestration across the Akamai Connected Cloud. You'll work closely with QEMU, Linux systems, and hardware teams to drive our native ARM and x86 compute. Our work environment nurtures rapid development cycles, open communication, and innovative engineering solutions to build high-density compute systems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.
- Demonstrate extensive experience with the full software development life cycle including code reviews, release management and support.
- Show proficiency developing software in Python, Go, C/C++, or Rust.
- Have experience with cloud compute virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU), container runtimes, Linux system APIs, or hypervisor integration.
- Possess experience with web application development, microservices, micro-orchestration, RESTful APIs, and database design patterns.
- Have excellent debugging, profiling, and troubleshooting skills across distributed Linux systems and database layers.
Responsibilities
- Designing and developing backend compute services and APIs for ARM64 and x86_64 instance management using Python, Go, or compiled systems languages.
- Expanding underlying platform functionality, resource orchestration tools, and APIs for cloud compute provisioning.
- Contributing to enhanced production support and effective resolution of complex issues impacting low-level compute systems.
- Partnering with cross-functional teams to integrate ARM server hardware and solve technical performance bottlenecks.
- Improving compute platform performance, feature sets, multi-core scalability, and service reliability.
