About The Position

Cloudflare is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its AI & Infrastructure Planning work. The role helps build, deploy, and operate one of the world’s largest distributed networks. The engineer will build an auditable multi-agent system on Cloudflare’s platform to replace notebooks and email threads with agent-driven forecasts, supply plans, cost models, and workflow approvals used by planners and executives for decision analysis. The position partners with capacity planning, networking, and data center engineering teams to turn technical expertise into structured specifications, data contracts, and agent capabilities. It involves designing and operating production agents and durable workflows on Cloudflare Workers, automating infrastructure-planning functions, and incorporating statistical and machine-learning models with BigQuery data pipelines and monitoring. The role also establishes safeguards for autonomous operations and contributes technical specifications, RFCs, design reviews, and architectural standards for AI agent deployment.

Requirements

  • Senior-level software engineering experience, including production systems built with security in mind that can be demonstrated through repositories, releases, or operated services.
  • Strong TypeScript skills and comfort building on serverless or edge runtimes; Cloudflare Workers experience is preferred.
  • Experience with HTTP APIs, asynchronous systems, queues, and performance.
  • Experience with LLMs and agents, including tool calling, structured output, multi-step or multi-agent orchestration, and prompt and evaluation iteration.
  • Experience with durable state and workflows, such as Durable Objects, Cloudflare Workflows, or equivalent technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in infrastructure planning, such as capacity planning, forecasting, networking, CDN, cloud or data center capacity, or adjacent work.
  • SQL and cloud data warehouse skills; BigQuery is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of forecasting and statistical modeling, including backtesting, error metrics, and recognizing when a model is wrong.
  • Clear written communication skills for producing specifications, RFCs, and explanations that planners and executives can use.

Nice To Haves

  • Data science or machine-learning background, including time series, optimization, or predictive modeling, and Python for scientific computing.
  • Experience with Hono, Zod, OpenAPI, and a modern frontend framework such as Astro or React.
  • Experience with peering, BGP, ASN and IX data, backbone or transit planning, or colocation, power, and procurement planning.
  • Experience with agent frameworks such as LangGraph, Autogen, or A2A, and judgment about what to adopt or discard.
  • CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code experience, including GitLab CI or Terraform.
  • Experience building LLM evaluation frameworks or human-review workflows.
  • Bias for simple, scalable designs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with capacity planning, networking, and data center engineering teams to encode domain expertise into structured specifications, formal data contracts, and agent capabilities.
  • Architect, deploy, and maintain scalable production agents and durable workflows using the Cloudflare Workers ecosystem, including Durable Objects, Workflows, D1, R2, Queues, Vectorize, Workers AI, and AI Gateway.
  • Automate infrastructure-planning functions such as forecasting, supply planning, cost modeling, narrative documentation, and executive approvals with LLM-based or deterministic agent workflows for critical decision analysis.
  • Implement risk tiering, formal approval checkpoints, detailed audit logs, and execution lineage to support safe autonomous operations.
  • Incorporate predictive statistical and machine-learning models into agent systems, build robust BigQuery data pipelines and optimized access patterns, and establish continuous monitoring.
  • Write technical specifications and RFCs, conduct peer design reviews, and establish architectural standards for AI agent deployment across the organization.
