About The Position

Ford's Vehicle Care Engineering team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, deploy, and scale core services supporting vehicle ownership experiences for Ford and Lincoln customers globally. The role builds the digital backbone connecting customer mobile applications, dealership service systems, and in-vehicle digital displays. The engineer owns systems end to end, from architectural design and collaborative whiteboarding through implementation, automated CI/CD deployment, performance optimization, and 24/7 cloud operations. The position works in an Agile environment with product managers, UX designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient, high-performing solutions that improve the vehicle care experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant practical experience may be considered.
  • At least 5 years of progressive software-engineering experience building, deploying, and supporting scalable cloud-based applications.
  • Experience developing backend services, microservices, and APIs in an Agile or Kanban delivery environment.
  • Experience collaborating with product managers, UX designers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting critical, high-availability applications in an always-on production environment.
  • Strong communication, technical leadership, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Java and the Spring and Spring Boot ecosystem.
  • Experience building and deploying cloud-native microservices and RESTful APIs on Google Cloud Platform or comparable platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with GCP services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, and Apigee.
  • Understanding of RESTful API design standards, JSON, OpenAPI, Swagger, authentication, authorization, and API security.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Background in Test-Driven Development, automated testing, code coverage, and Clean Code practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated release processes, and DevOps tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Cloud Build, Tekton, Terraform, SonarQube, and FOSSA.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, cloud operations, observability, application logging, monitoring, alerting, and performance analysis.
  • Ability to perform load and performance testing, diagnose distributed-system issues, and improve system reliability and scalability.
  • Understanding of cloud security fundamentals and secure software-development practices.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; employment eligibility will be verified at hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience building backend services for high-traffic customer mobile applications, dealership portals, or enterprise service platforms.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and message brokers, including Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Apache Kafka, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with canary deployment strategies, blue-green deployments, feature flags, and zero-downtime release practices.
  • Experience with API gateway management, API lifecycle governance, and performance profiling.
  • Experience with customer-facing automotive, connected-vehicle, service, maintenance, dealership, or vehicle-care platforms.
  • Experience using Dynatrace, Grafana, GCP Cloud Monitoring, or similar observability and application-performance-management tools.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native application design patterns.

Responsibilities
