About The Position

Thimble is investing in the next generation of its platform. The Senior Software Engineer helps lead the evolution of its Node.js microservices and event-driven AWS architecture toward durable, explicitly orchestrated workflows, with AI-native tooling central to the development process. This is a hands-on role involving daily production coding and code review, while also shaping technical strategy and establishing patterns for the broader team. The role requires immediate proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript and uses AI agents as a primary build partner. The engineer will define and build workflows and services, establish shared implementation patterns, and plan a gradual migration while keeping production running. They will develop tooling and quality checks for AI-assisted development, operate and monitor services, and own incidents end to end. The role also includes targeted React and Angular changes when needed, plus collaboration with product, growth, and engineering colleagues. The company is fully remote and describes its environment as remote and async-friendly.

Requirements

  • Strong backend engineering experience in production with Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating distributed or event-driven systems, with a working understanding of how they fail.
  • Experience using AI tools to drive a large-scale code migration, such as a framework upgrade, service rewrite, or language port.
  • Experience contributing to a migration or re-platforming of a live system.
  • Comfort reading unfamiliar code and data models and identifying problems.
  • Enough frontend literacy to trace a problem from the user interface to the service layer.
  • Clear written communication and comfort working in a remote, async-friendly environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with a durable execution or workflow orchestration engine in any language.
  • Built or contributed to an MCP server, agent harness, evaluation suite, or multi-agent system, whether as a side project, open source, or internal tool.
  • Experience in InsurTech, FinTech, or another regulated industry in an environment similar to the company’s technology stack.
  • Curiosity about agent harnesses, MCP, and A2A protocols; production deployment of agents is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build durable workflows and services to replace current event-driven flows, defining service boundaries, state ownership, idempotency, and retry semantics.
  • Use agentic coding tools on difficult problems by setting up context, breaking work into steps, and verifying output.
  • Write, review, and ship production code in Node.js and TypeScript every day, using agentic coding tools such as Claude Code as a primary way of working.
  • Define reference patterns, including service templates, shared libraries, and code generators, for rebuilt services.
  • Plan and execute the migration in increments that keep production running, with tested rollbacks.
  • Build and maintain AI workflow tooling, including MCP servers, evaluation scripts, and automated checks for AI-generated code.
  • Instrument services with metrics, alerts, dashboards, and tracing, and own production incidents end to end.
  • Make targeted changes in React and Angular applications when backend work requires them.
  • Partner with product, growth, and other engineers, and contribute to code reviews and architecture discussions.
