About The Position

Schonfeld is seeking a Senior UI Engineer to help build and shape its internal UI platform, which supports more than 100 business applications. This high-impact, hands-on engineering role combines front-end specialization with platform thinking. The engineer will evolve UI infrastructure, shared components, development tools, and implementation standards while partnering with product owners, product teams, and business stakeholders to shape requirements and deliver UI solutions within applications. The work spans full-stack development, including web front-end engineering, backend integration, API design, performance optimization, and system observability. The role also contributes to code quality and engineering practices, mentors junior engineers, identifies development lifecycle gaps, and continuously improves both the platform and the ways developers build with it. The position requires close collaboration across product development, design, and engineering, including practical use of AI tools and agentic workflows throughout the development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional UI engineering experience, including at least 2 years leading or designing front-end architectures.
  • Advanced React and TypeScript expertise, including experience architecting large-scale, performant component systems, setting front-end technical standards, and mentoring teams on modern React patterns such as hooks, composition, and performance optimization.
  • Strong UI/UX design collaboration experience, including working directly with users and stakeholders, iterating on application design, translating business requirements into user stories and journeys, and shaping user-focused screens.
  • Experience partnering closely with product management throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept and requirements through design iteration and delivery.
  • Hands-on experience using AI throughout the development lifecycle, including fluency with tools such as Codex, Claude, or Copilot; solving engineering problems with AI; building and operating agents and skills; and evolving SDLC practices around agentic workflows.
  • Strong familiarity with enterprise JavaScript frameworks such as Redux, Zustand, or RxJS.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced data grid and charting tools integrated with real-time or high-volume datasets.
  • Proficiency writing unit and end-to-end tests using frameworks such as RTL, Mocha, Jest, Cypress, or Playwright.
  • Experience leading the technical lifecycle of complex UI applications, from architecture and technology selection through implementation, deployment, scalability, and production reliability.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to incorporate AI capabilities into user features or development workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with business stakeholders to turn high-level concepts into technical plans, UX wireframes, or prototypes.
  • A commitment to engineering excellence, including advocating best practices, challenging outdated patterns, and contributing thoughtful critique in team discussions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building internal tools for trading, analytics, or compliance in finance or fintech.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services such as EC2, Kubernetes-driven deployments, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience designing and operating high-throughput, event-driven data pipelines on Apache Kafka or Apache Spark.
  • Experience implementing or maintaining design systems.
  • Familiarity with React-based micro-frontend architectures and modular UI patterns.
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Go, Python, Java, or Rust.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and evolve the firm’s internal UI platform and the infrastructure supporting more than 100 business applications.
  • Partner with product owners and teams building on the platform, and work with business stakeholders to shape feature definitions and requirements.
  • Improve the technical stack, development tools, architecture, shared components, and implementation consistency across cross-functional teams.
  • Build high-impact UI solutions directly into business applications.
  • Perform full-stack development, including web front-end work, backend integration, API design, performance optimization, and system observability.
  • Contribute to code quality and best practices, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Identify gaps in development lifecycles and continuously improve the core platform and developer workflows.
  • Lead the technical lifecycle of complex UI applications from architecture and technology selection through implementation, deployment, scalability, and production reliability.
  • Use AI tools and workflows to decompose and solve engineering problems, build and operate agents and skills, and evolve SDLC practices.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate AI capabilities into user features or development workflows.
  • Collaborate with users, stakeholders, and product management to translate business needs and product vision into user stories, designs, and shipped UI.
  • Advocate for engineering excellence, challenge outdated patterns, and elevate standards through team discussions.
